Croatia car hire

Options
Hello,
I was wondering if anyone had booked car hire in Dubrovnik? I've been getting quotes for £280-£320 for 10 days which seems reasonable, however, the £1250-£1500 deposits they quote as needing seem excessive. In truth I wouldn't have enough money to pay for the hotel if they held this against my credit card. Is there a way around them holding such a high fee?
Many Thanks

Usually the only way to avoid the deposit is to buy their own (expensive) CDW excess cover, reducing the liability to zero. However, when it comes to it the actual deposit required may not be that much, it seems unusually high.

Hello, Thanks for replying. That's what I thought but I'm ringing around companies with UK based customer services and the cheapest I've had so far is £875. still a huge amount of cash flow to have blocked up for a holiday! Would you recommend holding off and seeing what they offer out there?
