Hard to say without seeing the property but if my area is anything to go by then their massive overpricing probably isnt helping. I dont think ive seen s home that hasnt been at least 10k overpriced above sold prices recently.

Run away from Purple Bricks. We just bought a house from someone using Purple Bricks and they are a nightmare for both sides. If anyone says it doesn't put buyers off they are lying. The house we've bought lost at LEAST £10k in value because of them. Originally we thought we couldn't afford it but thanks to Purple Bricks being awful we got a deal.

They basically take your money, stick some photos on their website and then walk away. Our solicitor and mortgage broker now have a lot less hair from having to deal with them. They lied about having done things, were asking our solicitor to do work THEY were responsible for and delayed the whole process by over 3 weeks by being generally useless.

So, consider this - save a couple of grand in commission or sell your house for what it's actually worth. What gives you more at the end? Should say our estate agent pushed our buyer for an extra few grand which MORE than covered her commission.

I'm another who gives purple bricks a wide berth, not due to prices but due to their ignorance of selling property in Scotland.

We checked on the agent selling the house we've bought and he's responsible for most of central Scotland! So apparently has expert knowledge of everywhere from Helensburgh to St Andrews. Our agents on the other hand were solely Fife and Edinburgh and are an actual team with offices across those areas. I suspect the Purple Bricks guys trades from his garage!
  • We had a good experience with PB last year, selling our house to the first person who viewed it. All went relatively smoothly and completed 4 months later. I liked how I could deal with the buyer directly, and we saved a lot of money. I'm quite an enthusiastic person so found doing viewings easy and fun. I'm also a photographer so could ensure good quality pictures. In our experience, PB tends to value things well (or even undervalue) as they don't want houses hanging around long or it affects their reputation.

Saying that, I don't think an online agent is right for everybody. If your house is unusual, or an odd layout, negative location eg/next to a petrol station, or you're not much of a "people person" (and the one doing viewings), then a traditional agent is a much better option.

That puts them out of step with the prevailing sentiment, and therefore you won`t get any viewings.

It's tough. It brings me to think about all the fees that are tied up in the contract that you actually don't need when you sign. The whole property market needs much better regulation. It can be really frustrating, but once it's signed you usually have to pay up.

Definitely look into the price and do your own evaluations on the nearby area with what's recently sold.

I can only comment on PB from the point of view of a buyer, and I was not impressed. Viewings I requested never took place because PB never bothered to confirm them, and I did end up wondering if the poor sellers would ever sell their properties.

I viewed some properties in one area via many estate agents. From buyer's view. Purplebricks service is the same as the local estate agents.

Staff are very friendly, helpful and polite. After offer accepted, the Purplebricks post sales support team helped me a lot to make sales progresses very fast. All questions are answered instantly ! The staff helped pushing both solicitors and helped contacting them regularly.

Their online system is also very useful. You can text / e-mail seller directly too.
From my experiences, I really like it. If one day I will have to sell my property, I will definitely choose this estate agent.

I had a good experience with purplebricks as well, i didn't get the house but i liked the way the whole thing was in your own hands a bit more. I do get the impression it depends totally on the area though and the quality of the agents they have. It's still earlyish days for the online estate agents like purplebricks.

I certainly think this is the direction of travel though, so much is done online via rightmove these days. There seems to be less and less justification for the price that high street estate agents charge for their services.
