He's 20 years old and he needs advice and help, not criticism, he knows without that criticism, he has been stupid. I wish that I could give him that advice and help, but I have no idea what to offer. Is there anyone here who can help this lad?
My suggestion to the OP would be to open a savings account with another bank, building society or National Savings. These accounts would not normally need a credit check and would allow the OP to receive benefits/wages/salary even if all his current accounts are closed.0 -

I agree. At the end of the day we only know what people post. I have seen some where it is so clearly the OP's fault that they are in the situation they're in, and have only once said "it's your fault" - and then only because the OP seemed to be trying to blame the bank.0 -
Hi there i really need some urgent advice as i am loosing sleep over this situation. Basically i had an account with Barclays that was closed last year due to fraud/money laundering and as i hand not used the account for while and the details were with a friend who laundered money through it (stupid i know). I then found out recently after opening a new Nationwide account and calling them that there was a CIFAS against my name from Barclays and that that would need to be remove if they can proceed with opening the account. I am panicking heavily as i think this has messed up my future as i am only 20 and i wish to have a second bank to save money in which i am have difficulty getting now.
I just have a current account with Metro at the moment.
Can someone please offer advice or how to get this situation rectified. It would be greatly appreciated.
You need to get proper advice, CIFAS markers are hard to remove. Someone suggested contacting the police, I'm not sure if/how that would help. Maybe citizen's advice?
You also need to be clear, you said it was closed due to fraud/money laundering. Which? Both? If it's money laundering, how do you know that? The bank isn't allowed to tell you this, it's against the law for them to "tip off" on money laundering. So, these are 2 different things, with different consequences in the long run.
The other thing is that all bank account T&Cs state (I'm paraphrasing) that you must not give your account to someone else to use. Even without the fraud/money laundering, they'd be within their rights to close your account as you have breached the T&Cs of the account.
Find out what category of CIFAS marker you have, you can contact them and they can give you that. I don't know much, but different levels of CIFAS markers are more or less serious. You may be able to take it from there.

Someone suggested opening a savings account, which doesn't need a credit check, but CIFAS may still flag as part of the ID check? I'm not sure - maybe someone else knows.0 -
Quick update, i contacted Barclays and have been told the marker has been uplifted ! maybe you should of offered help instead of bashing me but hey my name is clear now.0

To be fair people maybe should have done both. You did do something stupid and were rightly made aware of that. But others did give you advice.
At the end of the day any issues you have with any bank, your first port of call should be to speak to the bank and ask them about it and see what they can do.0 -

This happened to me don't listen to all the others talking about the flag won't get removed. I had to call Barclays and go throughout complaints procedure when you call them tell them the situation Barclays are the only ones that can remove it. Prove to them that you didn't have access to that account at that point in time and also did not do money laundering on the account Hope this0

You will only get a CIFAS marker if the evidence is sufficient to take to authorities.
You basically let some pay money into your account knowing it was fraudulent and withdrew it and took a cut of the money0 -
You wont be able to get it removed will disappear after 6 years.
Barclays would of done a full investigation before adding the marker against your name0
