Evening
Another grey, drizzly day although the sun poked through once or twice and it has felt very mild compared to last week. The wood burner is still on though! Not feeling too guilty as it’s drying the laundry and although my cold is much improved, after a long day at work I’m ready for a quiet, cosy evening:)
Work has been good and no one has succumbed to end of termitis yet, despite the usual autumn germs doing the rounds. I’m so pleased with how quickly they’ve settled in, they’re a challenging but rather lovely group. Glad we are seeing far more of the lovely:)
I’ve decided to give spin a miss until my coughs and splutters subside a bit so I’ve had a bit more time to potter around at home and have got a few things done.
In money news - there is none!! It has however, been a NSD. As the fridge, freezer and fruit bowl are well stocked and the car is full of fuel I’m hoping that Wednesday and Thursday will be too.
Today’s small steps to freedom and happiness included;
A good sleep
Drank 2 litres of water
Took coffee, water, lunch and snacks to work
Cheap, healthy eats (porridge for breakfast, lo for lunch and batch cooked veggie moussaka from the freezer with some salad for dinner)
Sorted out recycling ready for collection
Marking up to date and classroom tidy
Made a fridge tray bake for DS’s lunch boxes using up odds and ends of chocolate and biscuits
Made spicy lentil and carrot soup in the PC to use up bendy carrots
Put curry sauce out of SC into the freezer for DS’s party
Tomorrow’s lunches ready - will defrost something for dinner in the morning
Stewed some gifted apples for the freezer
I’m off for a nice long bath then into my pjs ready for a bit of a TV and then an early night with my book. Bliss
Happy Tuesday - I hope the week is going wellOriginal mortgage £112,000 . Final payment due August 2027.

Evening:wave:
A step closer to the weekend:). Work has been busy but uneventful - I can cope with that! My day to day marking is up to date but half term assessments are imminent and I know how quickly a backlog builds up. I’ve decided not to get my knickers in a twist about it and will set aside some time at half term to get them done. If I can keep on top of everything else until the holidays (this week and next) then this will be manageable.
I’m having a European city break at half term ( cheap flights booked in the January sale and a nice, central but reasonably priced AirBNB) - I’m so excited, I love exploring new places. We’ll probably eat out once but the rest will be homemade dinners and breakfasts and packed lunches and snacks. We also walk where we can, use public transport and use water bottles and thermos coffee cups so we can have a lovely holiday with out busting the budget. Also, if we keep low cost we can have more holidays
I’m feeling much more myself today but I’m still coughing and spluttering so I gave my exercise class a miss. I hate losing my exercise routine but I know from past experience that it does me no good and I’m better off resting for a week and then easing back in gently. I’ll try a little run at the weekend and will book two classes for next week.
Today’s small steps to freedom and happiness included:
Drank two litres of water
HM veggie burgers from the freezer (YS lamb burger for DS) with hm coleslaw, onion rings and posh YS brioche buns for dinner
Took coffee, water and snacks to work
Cheap, healthy eats (porridge for breakfast and hm soup for lunch)
Laundry folded but not put away
Long, black down coat with a hood off eBay arrived- advertised as a bit grubby (so got it for £5). It had a bit of make up on the collar and has washed like new. Absolute bargain- no shivering on playground duty for me this winter
. I also have a really thick long, brown down coat that I got off eBay a few years ago so I washed that too. I now have cosy, warm colour coordinated coats for all my winter outfits
Put Dhansak sauce in the sc ready to freeze for DS’s party.
Recycling sorted out and collected
Fire lit and gorgeous wax melt melting. So cosy and relaxing after a long day
Lunches ready for tomorrow
Shopping list ready for food shop tomorrow- I’ll go on the way home from work
I’ve been awake since 4 am (bloody menopause:mad:) so I’m going to watch a bit of TV followed by an early night with my book
Happy Hump Day, I hope it’s been a good one:)

Excellent coat buying! And what a lovely trip you have planned :j :j do we get to know which European city you're off to? (Not that I've been to more than about three myself :rotfl: but it's nice to live vicariously through other people's travels) :j0

Evening:wave:
What a miserable day - weather wise anyway, constant rain
Work was good and flew by. I’m really enjoying work at the moment - another benefit of my reduced hours. The main benefit is that my weekend has now started:)
I’m not sure if it’s the weather or that I’ve been a bit under the weather but I’m really enjoying my cosy evenings:). I’ve spent every evening snuggled up on the sofa with the wood burner and some scented candles lit either reading or watching TV and just relaxing - it’s been so lovely, I’m definitely embracing autumn. It’s also made me really appreciate my home which I really am beginning to love. It’s been an up and down few years - it’s so nice to feel content and settled. My life is so simple these days (some would say boring!!) but I love it, and after what’s gone before, I’m so grateful for it.
Gosh, that’s a bit deep for a rainy Thursday! Better get back to the usual stuff. I treat myself to a quick out of the door finish today and got home in time to get a few jobs done. I also did the food shop on my way home and it’s the first proper one I’ve done this month. I based my meal plan around what’s in the freezer but I did splash our on a pork joint to do a proper roast dinner for mum and the kids on Sunday:). It still only came to £31.74 - love Aldi!!
Other small steps to freedom and happiness included;
Cleared a heap of clutter off the kitchen counter which has been driving me nuts!
Changed DD’s bed
Hoovered and dusted
Put laundry away and did another load
Made overnight oats
Emptied the bins
Threw out a cracked plastic shelf out of the fridge which I’ve glued too many times and is now beyond repair
Wiped down the (grubby) kitchen units
Had a good sleep last night
Drank 2 litres of water
Had a nice chat with Mr P
Cheap, healthy eats (porridge for breakfast, hm soup for lunch and veggie dhansak and brown rice for dinner)
Took coffee, water and snacks to work
I’m going to round off my lovely day with an early night with my book - rock and roll :rotfl:
Happy Thursday to you

I thought exactly this last night whilst watching tv with dh. We also had wax melts, candles and a fire on the go (not a real log burner but ours does look very realistic) and I was looking around our lovely home feeling very lucky to have it. We do live very simply though and I was thinking we could have easily spent £60 on a restaurant meal to celebrate the weekend etc. I am much happier living simply at home.
Hope your cold is getting better and the cosy evenings have helped it on its way.June 2025 - part 1 - £19,145 part 2 - £21,973 Total - £41,118 29 months to go!0
