Daylight Driving Lights

Not what YOUR manual states.
You are right. With the light switch in the off position, only DRLs are illuminated with the engine running. I always use the Auto position unless I want to force the use of dipped headlamps, when I switch to the headlamp position. I had filed the use of the Off position in the irrelevant section of my brain, as I see no practical use for it, but you are correct.0 -

I loathe DRLs. They train drivers to look for lights not objects. Another bit of poorly thought-out legislation.
One of the pleasures of driving in good visibility in daytime used to be not being dazzled by badly-aligned front lights. Now people who don't have DRLs see other cars with lights on and put their side/headlights on too - totally unnecessary.

Me neither0 -
I was on the lookout for cars today driving round with DRLs concentrating mainly for new vehicles and I didn't see one, apart from a Volvo V60 (but that's already been explained) with their rear lights on and that included a 17 plate Audi and VW.My 2017 Audi A3 has the led drls and rear tail lights on all the time, do does my mums seat ateca0 -

Also drivers tend to fixate on bright light sources.
This is a Bad Thing as in general, you aim the car at what you are fixated on, you need to look at the clear bit of road not the oncoming car (or overly lit up cyclist) if you want to miss them.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....

You say this but all the evidence suggests that they are safer with than without, hence why they've been legislated for. Also drivers tend to fixate on bright light sources.

The evidence is no more scientific than my opposite opinion, no testing has ever had solely DRLs as the independent variable, any perceived reduction in accidents/deaths could be correlation rather than causation.I want to go back to The Olden Days, when every single thing that I can think of was better.....
