Trying to get money back from Sky - Hoop jumping - Direct debits

Good morning all,
My contract with sky ended on the 4th July 2017 and I informed them back in May and June that I was leaving and not to continue the contract which they agreed verbally over the phone and via facebook. I transferred to another provider who informed them as well.
Unfortunately Sky took payments out in the middle of June for 19th June-18th July and upped the charges by an additional £20 which I am having to claim back - which isn't too easy as they are saying I have to phone back in Aug to ask for the money back.
Sky then took out an additional £37.99 out of my account on the 19th July to cover the period of 19th July-18 August which strikes me as unusual as I had cancelled my direct debit and sky had confirmed no further payments would be taken out early July.
After quite a few calls I have been told that they will try to prevent an additional £37.99 from being taken out on the 19th August but it's their billing dept that is responsible and they cannot put me through.
I have requested that a complaint be put through and that they refund my money but the staff seem unmotivated to assist and will not commit to anything.
Any helpful suggestions would be appreciated.

Nanny Ogg looked under her bed in case there was a man there. Well, you never knew your luck.

Have you spoken to your bank ? If the DD has been cancelled no money should be leaving your account.0

I had cancelled the direct debit at the bank after June's payment came out but the direct debit was reinstated somehow in July. I spoke with bank yesterday and they have cancelled it again and suggested I contact Sky

I suspect (no proof mind) that your problems stem from cancelling the DD in the first place.0

Hi Colin_Maybe,
You've lost me on that one I'm afraid. I cancelled it after the last payment was paid and no further payments were due. The payments that came out of my account were for periods were I was no longer with sky as the contract had ended - the cancellation was performed in accordance with their t&c's both over the phone and via their messenger app for which they confirmed the cancellation.
I hope this helps.Nanny Ogg looked under her bed in case there was a man there. Well, you never knew your luck.
