Mobile phone power banks

Morning team
I want to extend the battery life on my mobile phone so I can dump my rubbish garmin gps thingy.
Have been reading reviews that say 'super quick charge time' etc but I don't want to stop to charge my phone, I want to plug a power bank into my phone and leave it plugged in.
I'm sure this is a daft question but is this how they work?!

They're just rechargeable batteries in a nice package.
You charge them using a normal phone charger to start with.
Then, while you're out and about, you plug them into your phone and it recharges/maintains the charge in the phone.
Don't buy cheap - there are a lot of fake ones out there with low capacity.
Anker are an excellent make, buy them through Amazon.0 -
we bought one from Argos for about £15, it gives about 2-3 recharges from a single charge up... my daughter takes it camping..0

Pretty sure my Anker unit switches off the power when the phone stops charging, and doesn't start again unless I disconnect/reconnect the battery. Not sure if this is the battery or the phone that causes the behaviour, could be either.
Don't expect to get much more than 1/2 the advertised capacity, regardless of the make.0 -
If you have an iPhone you can buy their own smart battery cover which doubles the battery life. Expensive though, at £99.
I've got one and only need charge it and my phone every 3 days.I shot a vein in my neck and coughed up a Quaalude.

Another vote for Anker being a good brand, however ive recently bought an AUKEY after reading some very good reviews and ahve been very impressed so far:

I guess you intend to use this in your car ?
So why not just buy one of those ciggy lighter plug usb adapter things and a micro usb lead ?0 -
I have an Anker one and get some 4 charges out of it. After emergency admission to hospital with flat phone and nobody able to find an appropriate charger, I was unable to contact anybody because you just press one button to phone nowadays, no learning phone numbers!

It's always (fully charged) in my handbag or car nowadays.
Newer version available https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-5200mAh-Portable-External-Technology-Black/dp/B00P8SY7HQ/ref=dp_ob_title_wld0 -
That's the modern equivalent of what my Mum used to say "Always wear clean underpants in case you have an accident" now becomes "Always take a fully charged phone in case you have an accident"0

Thanks for the replies
It's not for my car, it's for cycling. I have a gps thing that tracks my route but the battery life is awful and I do long bike rides. I don't need to read the screen as I go so was thinking of selling it on ebay and using the money to buy a battery pack so that I could just plug it into my phone, put it in my back pocket and forget about it for the day... I will look into the suggestions above, ta...
(The bike gps won't work whilst it's charging apparently):cool: lurker:cool::cool:0
