Changing BT account from Ex's name to mine - Help!

I have a BT package consisting of TV, landline and broadband, possibly also a mobile SIM.
Unfortunately whilst all the above (apart from the mobile) relate to my property the account was set up in my soon-to-be ex husband's name and the monthly direct debit is taken from his account.
I have contacted BT today requesting the account be changed to my name but they insist that unless I have the account number (which I don't and am not in contact with ex) all they can do is set up a new account in my name with a new number. Frankly this involves hassle I could really do without, but quite apart from that I don't understand how I can have a new account if we already have an existing landline etc which is in ex's name and I therefore can't close! will I have to have two phones / routers etc?!
Thanks in advance for any help or advice, BT have been averagely useless!

If you change your current package into your new name, if the account is in arrears then those arrears will then become yours.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End
You can please some of the people some of the time, all of the people some of the time, some of the people all of the time but you can never please all of the people all of the time0 -
The account isn't in arrears, he's still paying it. i just don't want any link to him or for him to be able to access information regarding my calls etc, hence why I want to change the account. Thanks for replying though : )0

Can you make any personal calls on your mobile (get a SIM only deal from another provider) and let him carry on paying for it. That's moneysaving after all.Thrifty Till 50 Then Spend Till the End

Its his account at present and really he needs to be involved .
Best if he was to contact BT as BT cannot deal with you as you are not the customer .0 -
Does his mail still come to your address - any junk from BT ought to have the account number on it?
Or are you out of contract - you could switch to another provider using your name, and the new provider will do the work - bit extreme, and a hassle, though.0
