I went to a lovely wedding yesterday. It was like an old fashioned wedding, in the big local parish church with the reception in the local community hall. Bride and Groom were full of life and looked radiant.

Family and friends decorated the smart-but-functional hall the day before, with bunting, lights, and homemade tablecloths cut from a roll of white cotton fabric. Catering was done by a local prize winning butcher (yum) and supplemented with home made cakes, again from friends and rellies. The couple, who are in their mature years, had 120+ guests from all parts of the country from all phases of their lives. Some of us met folk we hadn't seen for over 20 years. There was live music, not too much alcohol and almost all of the guests helped to restore the hall to its former state by 11pm so the weekly church service could take place as usual this morning.

I struggled to find an outfit to wear for the wedding, having left it late and finding most of the shops had sales on to get rid of the unsold stock. In the end I wore a top and linen trousers I already had, flat shoes with a floral pattern and I dressed up my hat with a narrow silk scarf for a hat band. It was helped by having all my tops and trousers hanging Kondo-style so I could see which would go with which. All I bought was a little make up - which I haven't worn for years. I was told by several friends that I should wear it more often/every day, and was complimented on the outfit too.

It was the simplest, yet most enjoyable wedding I have ever been to, and the only time I haven't found our cathedral-like church to be a gloomy, dark place to be. A couple of friends took the wedding photos with the groom's own cameras, and even took a video of the whole service, arranged beforehand for the best vantage point for each part of the ceremony. I took as many photos during the reception as I could, some posed, most candid, and will give the couple a memory card with them on when I have transferred them.

A simple life, augmented with the love of friends, is better than riches.

Karmacat- annoying about the settee, we have had a similar thing with some gas cylinders, some camping, some domestic, however there is quite a lot of gas in them and it would be nice to get a little money here, the value to buy them full would be around £200, local postcard sales haven't yielded any response so may have to be brave and try local FB selling page, we are not being greedy and only asking a few quid. I am more generous than my DOH and would freegle, but I think it may be a while before he could be persuaded:)

GQ - thank you very succinct wording, I have fired off a message to second person, I agree some people might see no reply as a bit of a rejection.

SamsReturn - that is annoying, I have only had it happen a couple of times, but it did put me off posting for ages on the site.

A bit late for my Freegle advice, but I do exactly the same as GQ. I always let people know that it has been promised to someone else, and that I will contact them if it is collected or not. Leaving people dangling is just plain rude. I also always leave a thank-you note if a parcel is left on the step ( a note through the door or an email.) It pees me off when people don't thank me, so am conscious of it with others.

I invariably respond to people who write polite requests, preferably with information as to why they need the item. Please and thank you go a long way! Over the years I've also developed a sixth-sense when it comes to time-wasters. Have other freeglers also developed that knack?

How lovely :)That sounded like just how weddings should be. I despair at some of the frightful things I have seen and heard of... and the cost:eek: Have told my DDs if they want to get married then they can do it how they want - even go away and tell us later like me and OH did;) I am confident that neither will want the whole matching bridesmaids to the table decorations to the silly chair covers to the whatever else has to match these days. Certainly one has talked about teepees hog roasts and pizzas and no silly hats:p

The 2015 thread has not been locked. There's just been a new post on there.

I've PMd Zippychick but am not sure if the message has gone through. Can anyone double check?

Oh Charis, your description of the wedding is so lovely. I am delighted to say it sounds like ours (over 17 years ago) - registrar at a historic property owned by the local council, friend took the photos, we all went to the community centre that we had decorated, drank our own fizzy wine, had our own buffet and then had a 'horse racing' evening - you have a racecard and then races are played via DVD.. Everyone got to 'bet' (to comply with the law you simply have to pay out all takings rather than keep a profit!), everyone got to be an owner, and if their horse won they got prize and a rosette. There was plenty of shouting and cheering!

Kondo wins today - 3 more pairs of shoes into CS bag - one pair is too small and i have never worn them, one pair a bit too tight and I will never wear them again, and one pair which has straps that do not stay on my heels. OUT! Shoe rack and several boxes now all clean and tidy and bearing only footwear that i love :)

Also, a roll of wallpaper that we've had ages but I had forgotten about and bought another, nicer one, for the same job.

2 ratty t-shirts that are stained, mis-shapen and religious. They were in the gardening /decorating stash but I have others in there in a slightly more wearable condition :rotfl:

Confession time now - i bought a large framed print yester, from antique / secondhand emporium. Cost £8. Lovely frame, good mount, crinkly print. I don't want the print, i want the frame and mount. I bought it to use for one of my own paintings (a work in progress, i might add!).

Still more Stuff to go. I may have Tuesday free, depends on DH work schedule. Am torn between wanting to go out to play and doing some serious kondo-ing :rotfl:
I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.

Have been enjoying the shiny new thread everyone. Reading this is my treat each day with my coffee while the boss isn't looking!

There's been some Permitted Kondoing of others' things recently. F-I-L let us go through his summer house, when was essentially being used as a tool shed. He enjoyed the space so much that he's been out there much more and has identified more that can leave! (He get very hoardy and sentimental over everything - even offcuts of wood so this was a big win!)

Now we will be staying with them next week as M-I-L is going into hospital to Kondo her womb and a huge cyst
I'm hoping though that F-I-L will be inspired to let us free into the loft. It's not really GQ's parents' loft but close.

Again, the loft was designed as a man cave, and then it was filled with carp instead. (Then the summer house was built and filled with carp, so they built an extension and filled it with carp. Then realised that something had to be done as unless they build a new storey to the house, they are Full Up)

If we are let loose I'll post some updates.

    Morning all
    Hope everyone is well
Back from hols and hubby is back at work after his extra week off, nearly the end of the school summer hols.
Boiler got fitted and we aR about back to normal after that,
as a result of Dh falling in love with chesterfield settee on holiday and admitting to always wanting one we spotted just the one on gumtree and now have it so have given mil our black lazyboy as she'd got rid of her broken one a while back and wanted another
Slowly working through crafting stash and getting any for dd3s wedding. Currently knitting boleros for the little flower girls, later I've got chair bows to wash and iron as I picked a box full up for a fraction of what they'd cost to hire.
Still on paper here as I want to go rough the bookcases again.

Productive trip to the re-cycling centre today, 2 TVs, I electric kettle, large carrier bag of small electrical items (all old technology/too old to be in demand/broken, cables etc and a bag of non-recyclable odds and ends. Even OH who can be included to think of Justin agreed that it is a good feeling to clear the stuff out:D
