Go Outdoors only want faulty item returned to store when i mail ordered

Hi All,

I bought a cheap fishing rod from Go outdoors about 6 weeks ago via their website, it was used twice and then the end fell apart. They wont do a refund because its over 28 days and they wont allow me to either return it to them or take a photo of the problem . They only want me to go to a store to return it to see the problem and then use the manufacturers warranty , for me to goto a store is about an hours round trip. I`ve argued with them that I purchased it mail order and I shouldnt need to go to a store, but they wont budge.
Anyone know where I stand on this?

Thanks

Orders purchased online can be returned to one of our stores (other than our Hathersage store), through Collect+ and via Royal Mail or courier. Please be aware of the following weight limits:

    over 61 x 46 x 46cm/5kg for Royal Mail
    over 60 x 50 x 50cm/10kg for Collect+
If you need your product(s) to be collected because it's large or heavy, please call our Customer Services on 0330 008 1555 and we can arrange a collection.

thanks, but I`ve asked them 3 times from 3 different customer service people, they will not accept a mail return, they want it at a store to see it. Also, its a rod so its about 1m long and doesnt go within those guidelines.

Claim fuel costs for the round trip?

You've probably spent more time arguing with them than it would have taken to just take it to a store.

Tell them that any lack of conformity that appears within 6 months is assumed to be inherent and it is for them to prove otherwise. Until they prove otherwise, they are deemed to be in breach of contract and liable not only to provide a remedy, but also for any reasonable losses incurred as a result of their breach. Also, any repair must be carried out within a reasonable time and without causing significant inconvenience. If they fail on either of these points, you then have the right to reject for a full refund again.
