I've been worrying about introducing the new puppy to FDawg which it seems was entirely the wrong worry.
DS2 and wife (DIL) arrived later than expected yesterday so Mr F and I got the chance to sit in the garden, drink tea, admire the view and read magazines. The only pressing job was waiting for visitors to arrive. A rare treat for us - having nothing to do
The calm before the storm.
Introductions between the dogs went well so, after lunch, we set off to a local nature reserve so that they could have a good walk together. So far so good. We stopped at a nearby hostelry for a pint/G&T then remembered that our local brewery served fabulous pizzas so made our way there for supper. A lovely time was being had. Then DIL became suddenly ill. She was in pain and close to fainting so I called 111. They made an assessment of her over the 'phone and told us she needed to go to A&E within the hour  We rushed home and Mr F and I took care of the dogs whilst DS2 drove them to the hospital. She was seen very quickly, ahead of others who were waiting, so they must have thought it potentially serious. However, she's fine. It was a very nasty stomach bug. They got home soon after and we had a quiet evening in watching a film. She did look poorly. I'm hoping a good night's sleep will be the best remedy.
I am so proud of FDawg. There were a couple of moments when he felt he had to show new puppy who was boss but, overall, he was very calm and accepting. He let new puppy into the house without any bother and just carried on with his own calm routine whilst new puppy hared all over the place. New puppy was well behaved too... well behaved for a puppy :rotfl: There was only one hiccup really. New puppy wouldn't stay downstairs overnight. He barked and howled and, we have guests in the annex whom we didn't want to disturb, so we had to put him in the bedroom with DS2 and DIL. Not really fair on FDawg who has to sleep downstairs. Or me as I have asthma and so try to keep upstairs dust free. Anyhoo, it was a small blip as overall the two dogs have done brilliantly.
What a relief - twice :rotfl:
Every six months or so FDawg seems to take a big step forward. This week he has presented himself to new people for a cuddle twiceIt's the first time he's ever invited contacted with someone he's not met before.
We are likely to stay at home today to give DIL a chance to recover before they drive home. The mower may get a run out :rotfl:
Hope your weekend has been uneventful.

DIL felt much better yesterday. Mr F, DS2 and I took the dogs for a morning walk and left her in bed to catch up on her sleep. When we got back she was up and about. Her tummy was fine but she had a very sore ankle from some horsefly bites she'd picked up before coming to us. Fortunately I had an ice pack and some antihistamine on hand. However, we decided to stay at the homestead just to be on the safe side.
Our Annex guests left very early as they were planning a full day out before going home. They left me two pints of long life milk, a bottle of Dandelion & Burdock and a blackcurrant meringue :rotfl:
Mid-morning Mr F reminded me that he'd invited an old friend and his wife to drop by for coffee. Apparently he'd told me about this the day before (DIL confirmed that I was out of the room when he mentioned it). By 12.00 there was no sign of them so I started lunch preparations. At 12.30 they arrived. We offered drinks and put out crisps and muffins that I'd hastily retrieved from the freezer and defrosted in the microwave. I mentioned that I was in the middle of preparing lunch and invited them to join us but they declined saying they couldn't stay long. They stayed until 3.00  I had to start dropping hints like going off to the veg patch to cut lettuce and walking back past them saying "Don't mind me, I've just been shopping for our lunch". They were a very nice couple but did out stay their welcome a bit.
Then! Just as Mr F was waving the friends off, someone drove up to the gate. It was a lady who had stayed in the Annex this year. She was in the area with her partner and wanted to show him where she'd stayed. She said she'd only intended to show him the outside but I felt it would be rude not to give him a quick tour. I explained that I couldn't give them much time as we were about to eat and they didn't press me. However, it was a Bank Holiday Sunday and this is our family home - not a NT property
So, we had a very late lunch - Chorizo & Pepper Lasagne with salad followed by Maple Plum Crumble with cream. Not really a hot summer's day pudding but we have been able to harvest plums from the veg patch this year and it would have been a shame not to use them.
DIL and I picked blackcurrants, redcurrants, plums and a marrow from the veg patch for them to take home.
And during lunch... DIL got stung by a wasp  It just wasn't her weekend was it
Despite everything we have really enjoyed the weekend so far. DS2 and DIL left after lunch/tea/supper yesterday and the house was peaceful again. Mr F and I just had a relaxing evening to recover from all the drama :rotfl:
Today we intend to get out into the garden early, before it gets too warm, and do some tidying. Everything has that late Summer blousy, overgrown look.
Have a great Bank Holiday Monday all.

Goodness poor DIL, glad she has recovered, horsefly [we call them 'clegs' here] bites are very painful and can cause problems for ages after. Is DiL a bit of an insect magnet?
Sorry, had to smile at your catalogue of lingering and unexpected visitors, hope its a quieter day today0 -
Crikey, what an eventful weekend! Poor DIL, hope she has a far less eventful week. And I can understand driving past to show someone a holiday cottage you've stayed in - if it's on a main road! Otherwise, how very intrusive! Good grief.
I confess I would have eaten my lunch anywhere, whether they wanted any or not:rotfl:
