Thanks everyone. It was a good day indeed Ivy except that the house troll somehow missed having a pancake in the fairground so I made him one for his breakfast this morning. I'd hate for him to miss out :rotfl: Floss yes, we both saw and heard the airshow. That was probably why it was super busy when we walked up as far as the tower. The house troll was fascinated. Polly today and tomorrow are rest days. The HT was complaining of being sore by the time we'd walked around a bit so we caught a tram back to where I'd parked the car. He's happy in front of his computer screen today whilst I do some cleaning and ironing.
Monna when it's sunny Blackpool is ok for a couple of hours. I moved away from a smallish seaside town because I have trouble with crowds when it's sunny and didn't want to have to stay indoors every sunny weekend for the forseeable. Parking just to do ordinary shopping being one issue. I have no idea how the ordinary residents of Blackpool cope - people were walking out in front of the trams and tempers on the road were fraying - horns were being beeped.....I like peace and quiet so we can be back where we used to live in 10 minutes in the car but where we are now is much quieter. We are also fairly close to North Wales if we want seaside with added mountains. Hugs to your DiL, we waited 5 years to bury the late MrC's ashes as the house troll wasn't ready until then. Even after that length of time it was hard.0 -
Good morning all . It rained all night here but has now stopped and it's slightly less grey but with a stiff breeze , will see how it goes .
Mar Is there any situation where cake is not the answer ? Mind you chocolate is mine , well it's got iron in it hasn't it ?
ivyleaf I had the Jackie pictures on the bedroom wall too . Do you remember the one of Georgie in a chunky cream polo neck jumper? I thought cream was a bit unpractical so knitted a red one and have worn them ever since in many colours . Come the winter out they come . I think the problem was he came over in early 63 and was a quiet lad . In his early years he used to blush a lot . He was placed with a landlady by Sir Matt and he seemed lost and out of his comfort zone .
It was a big time of change and we were being swept along with all the happenings of the 60s . He became the first celeb footballer and it ruined him . Sir Matt couldn't handle him and an amazing talent was wasted . Nowadays youngsters are handled better .
Fergie never took any messing . When he threw that boot across the dressing room you knew Becks was on his way out .
It's the change from when the Charlton brothers and generations of footballers finished work and jumped on the bus or their pushbikes and headed for the training ground .
I noticed your name on the main forum board earlier . I never knew there was a nice people thread . However I'm already here and we're nice people so here I stay .
I'll be back

'ello kittie
so pleased you're here.
Thank you so much for the 'tatties in the fridge' suggestion. They've hit 1 week and still smoothe. I'll look into the bega when/if i am able to harvest my own but this quick fix is super.
We've been in Northumberland in the wobble box. Had a whale of a time visiting Hadrian's wall and waterfalls etc. The weather was disastrous but never mind.
I'm afraid I came back yesterday to check on my plot and faced hostility over the fence panels now destined as my perimeter fencing, They're too tall and now the site manager, who initially gave the go-ahead, has changed his mind. We have to cut the in half. So we pondered yesterday whether to cut them in half for fencing, put the work in to make the coop or to tske them right back to DH's work to be scrapped. I even thought about giving up yesterday but I really, really want to garden. My neighbour has now taken his fencing down so I have no idea what is going there but I do know that my freshly dug soil has been trampled on and is compacted again while I've been away. I awoke at 1am fretting about the whole issue. DH wants to allotment with me as back up but I see that as giving in. My plan is for DH to get me the kit needed and I am going to do the fence myself, starting the cutting tonight. I will do as they ask and then they will have nothing to gripe at me about. Doing the chickens will mean gripe and I just want to be left alone. Hey, GQ, at least no one parked there eh?!
Edited: I've just had a knock at the door, it was my actual house neighbour (who also is on the plots) he can't believe all this fuss, has aquired all the kit and if I wantbhe'll make a start on cutting them down. I'm going over soon! Just want them off my back. Sooner this is sorted the happier I will be. And if blokee next door is involved nobody can say owt surely.
On the plus side we have a frog on the plot that I'm keen to keep for slug perposes so youngest DD and I made a pond and small wildlife area late last night when there was not a soul there. We had a ball!
Mince, onions and later dumplings in the slow cooker today with a side of cabbage... Booootiful.
Mar you prolly know by now but kittie gave the link for the dehydrated veg on the winter thread.0 -
More power to your elbow, Fuddle - never let the barstewards grind you down!
My OH has actually played alongside the sainted George, and I have (many) photos to prove it! For a while he "helped out" a local police side in London; not surprisingly, they won their league by a huge margin that year. He became a great friend to them all until he hit the bottle again - so very sad. OH himself had "tried out" for MU in his youth, though not selected, and one of our kids spent several seasons as leading goalscorer for one of the local - now premier league - team's youth teams. Didn't show enough team spirit, though, in the end (and his chondromalacia patella was always going to let him down in the end) but several of his ex-team-mates are now in our national squad.Angie - GC Jul 25: £225.85/£500 : 2025 Fashion on the Ration Challenge: 26/68: (Money's just a substitute for time & talent...)0 -
Fuds Just keep on keeping on . Good to see your real neighbour offering his support . I had a few of the old guys on a previous plot very interfering and annoying . I just kept my head down and kept on .
I managed to throw a few saved seeds from my garden at home in among the veg and got my pot marigolds and lots of other flowers in a subtle way . I spent a lot of time explaining the old cottage gardens and quoting Geoff Hamilton and Bob Flowerdew among others . I've gardened organically my whole life and it was a joy to see their faces when the bees , butterflies , hoverflies , ladybirds etc zoomed in on my plot . The frogs and toads arrived . The proof of the pudding is really in the eating . They shut up after that first year .Did you ever get the jab at the Drs ? Keep on eye on your health and don't let the silly s*d get you down . He sounds a bitter and angry man and possibly a bit lonely too .
TW Really interesting post . My son had ambitions but he supports the other reds . Sadly years growing up playing hard and fast left him with injuries that weakened his ankles so his career is elsewhere .
I'm still thinking about that poor boy . It's sad you will never really know the full story . It's a wonderful idea to spend a short time in a different country but must be hard when for whatever reason you aren't coping . I remember years ago being horrified reading of summer camps in America and children that barely saw their parents . It doesn't sound as though your lad was in that situation but there are many that are shipped out over holiday times and I feel for them .

No Polly, no pnemonia jab yet. They're into their 8 months of being out of stock. I'm hoping they will be in stock when the autumn rounds of flu jabs begin. Not long. Yeah it's stress. If I get stressed all heck breaks loose and I'll be damned if being a gardener makes me stressed. The fence has been cut, it's in place we're securing after lunch. DH is taking him to the airport and picking him up at Christmas when he goes to Tenerife as a thank you. We've put the fence within my perimeter (a bit unfair really) to be sure that no one has grounds for any complaint. It's nearly over!!0

What a nice neighbour fuds!
The pond etc sounds lovely as well xx
pollyanna I can't remember how i first came cross the Nice People thread - it was originally started because there can be a lot of quite argumentative/aggressive posts on that board, so someone thought it would be good to have a thread where everyone is nice to each other! It works, too.0 -
Is not just this thread that "other people" come on and say something nasty? I do my best to be nice to everyone.0

Fuds I checked the dairies for DDs last flu injection and she was booked in for the 1st October clinic , par for the course she wasn't well enough to go and it was done the following week .
If by some chance you need to see the Dr either for yourself or the girls before the end of Sept give the Dr a nudge about the Pneumo jab . I hope it just happens but if need be become a squeaky wheel at the practise . The wheels that keep squeaking get the oil
It would be good if a lot more people found a way to acknowledge acts of kindness so good on your neighbour and you and your husband .
ivyleaf I haven't actually looked at that thread . I find the three threads I post on difficult to keep up with at times . I may make an odd post or two elsewhere but not very often .
I agree NM My mum used to say it costs nowt to be nice . The world would be a far better place if others felt the same way .
Off to do a little more , today I am trying to pace myself . I'll see if it lasts .
