Cooling-off period rights? One Call insurance

Hi All

Just wondering if anyone knows whether there is any way out of paying the !£49.99 cancellation fee after just 2 days of being 'insured' by these?

I initially began an online chat since their PDF documents are completely illegible (and they don't even print out, they just come out as a blank background template) and I also got locked out of the online account simply by changing the password (after which it wouldn't accept the old or the new one). I explained the problems and they wanted to charge me £8.99 to send hard copies but didn't even address this until after trying to sell me two extra products which was frustrating as hell. Didn't even come back to the password issue. She got quite rude with me, having emailed the same dodgy pixelated PDFs again saying that they were readable. I threatened to leave and eventually a manager agreed to waive the hard copy fee and post them. However I have caught a glimpse of the workings of this establishment and I think I want out

Edit:
Having just read some threads on here, particularly the individual who lost £5k since One Call disputed some details of the policy.. How am I meant to check my details are correct if I cannot read the damn documents?! Getting really worried now.

if it's in the T+C you can't escape, you agreed to them by paying

Charging cancellation fees during cooling off is the norm. So can't hold that against them!
  • Thank you both for your reply. Does that still apply when they are reluctant to supply a legible document? Having now read the volumes of negative customer experiences both on here and elsewhere, I have my suspicions that when (if) the hard copies arrive, they will be the same as the PDFs. Should I still have to pay to cancel?

If you bought over the phone and they never read the policy conditions to you then you may have grounds for a complaint. Follow their complaints procedure.

But if you bought from their website then you could have read the full policy wording there.

Now you know about your lucky escape from them mIght all be a blessing in disguise!
  • Finally cancelled. Had us going round in circles trying to talk us out of cancelling but done. They tried to link us to Trustpilot as an example of their good review... 28 pages of 1 star reviews tho.. Think we did have a lucky escape!
  • Fell in the trap off intending to use this company which showed up on a comparison website. Paid the premium 13 days before the commencement date, decided to cancel 5 days later ( still 8 days before commencement) and was charged £49.99 so the 14 day cooling off period was basically worthless . I feel I have still had a lucky escape as having read reviews this company is obviously best avoided . Have gone with Aviva again who almost matched the quote eventually but we do know are reputable and helpful. Should have read these reviews before commencing, lesson learnt.
My advice, avoid one call like the plague !

No its not. The cancellation rights period allows you to cancel the policy without seeing through the whole term. Without it, you could be liable for the whole premium.
