Does anyone make their own"kievs" using mince? I've never had much success making then from scratch using chicken breast as they always leak but I've made stuffed meatballs before and they've worked. I thought I'd try with turkey mince which I got today, make burger mix with it and wrap it around mozzarella, herbs and garlic, then coat in breadcrumbs and bake any tips folks? Most of the ones you buy are reformed chicken so I can't see why turkey mince wouldn't work if I squish it well and make sure it's thoroughly crumbed.

Mince is THE way to do them; it's how the product makers make them - else how else would they manage to get them all the same size? I was actually looking at mince the other day and thinking of making them... but you know how my grand ideas go... and I grabbed some burgers :)

So, in short, definitely mince. Mince every time. Just squash it right down and Bob's your uncle.

You'll wonder why you didn't do it like that before.

Going out for my tea :)

Yesterday I made cheesy mash, served with beans - and a cheeky choc ice to follow.

    My top tip:
What I did was to save empty margarine tubs and fill those with the water.

    .
I've done it, and I used a couple of plastic storage boxes I had and they caught most of the water so not too much mopping up.

I was surprised at how much I've got into the small chest freezer in the shed when I took the basket out. I got the bottom freezer draw as it was into the fridge with a load of freezer blocks and the last couple of bits in an insulated bag in the fridge, so it worked out better than I thought it would. I've turned it on now and everything I have put in the fridge part is still frozen so all is good.

I'm going to use a draw like you are for food you are eating, but it will have one or two of everything, for example, two chicken breasts, two packets of mince, two of braising steak, and then top that draw up as I use stuff. Your freezer organisation has been most helpful :). It will be a lot easier to find things. I'll have to update the spreadsheet as I put everything back though.

Cheers PN, I'm going to have a go on Sunday - enjoy your meal out:)

    Good afternoon everyone,
I'm currently scoffing a cup a soup as I still had a hungry space after my cottage cheese & crackers lunch. Tonight I'm making fish stew (I'm cheating a bit and using a bought chowder as the base;)) with garlic bread followed by bramble crumble & custard for me and my boy:)
