Much as I love crumpets there is just no comparison with apple cake and custard, and it's being MSE by using up stocks ;):)
Yes, that's what I had in the end. I decided that I couldn't be bothered to go out.

Edit: Don't know what happened to the quote

    Good decision:D

Well meal plan for tomorrow has potentially gone pear-shaped already as there is portion of gratin left so will need to decide whether to eat it or freeze it.......

I don't know what a gratin is (I'll Google it), but the default should always be to eat it if you can possibly manage to, even if it's a bizarre meal... try to avoid freezing where possible, it just lurks if you do that.

EDIT: Ah, didn't know "the topping" had its own name. I'd have just called it "A ... bake, with breadcrumbs & cheese on top and grilled" :)

    I'm simple.... :)

Its got to be an easier day today but I am going to tidy the other freezer drawers and do a bit of ironing

Soup, leek and gammon and I will put the last of the tinned brown lentils in, I suppose it will turn out as a comforting thicker meal in a bowl, should be nice, esp with a slice of the bread I made last night, Wholemeal and rye, one of my favourite bakes, panny recipe

Other meal will have to be `use it up` salad and I might make a parkin but will try xylitol instead of sugar. Break this morning will be an egg and cherries. Caronc, what you said about ready meals, urgh, I already knew that but thinking about it, it is just dregs of meat pressure washed off bones into a sludge

Got to get out today, short bike ride, going to turn into a blob if I am not careful

I've decided it can be lunch as I'm not convinced it will freeze that well and I'll freeze the remaining falafels.

Oh I love HM bread with rye in it - lob a slice (or 3 this way please;):D). I tried baking with xylitol years ago when my Dad was first diagnosed with diabetis, can't say I was impressed with the results. I find it ok to sweeten fruit, custard etc, but couldn't get it to work in baking.

Breakfast was toast with hummus & boiled egg so a good protein hit to start the day. Lunch will be the LO gratin and if I follow my meal plan tonight will be pasta & meatballs but I'm not sure I fancy that, we'll see. I've some stuffed pasta in the fridge so might go with that with a tom & veg sauce:)

Up at silly o'clock again, no reason, just could not get back to sleep

Early Breakfast was the last not quite wrinkled peach, eaten over the sink due to juice:o

Because it was still silly time I decided on the spur to pop down and see the new aircraft carrier HMS Queen Elizabeth arrive in Pompey, I'm only about 15 minutes away. I, and loads more chose Portsdown Hill as our viewpoint. It was bit murky but saw the Merlins and her being parked up. I'll get a much better view on the TV tonight I expect

By then the shops were open, so popped in but nothing exciting, there were YS stuff, but curse of the singlies, 6 chicken legs, or breasts, or pounds of mince / stewing steak are of no use and just freezer fodder

Later breakfast was a fried egg sandwich

Lunch, just not sure, I have LO quiche thingy which looks most unappealing so more likely cheese something or other

Dinner at moment is ??????? I was hoping a YS grabbit would have solved that problem for me, secretly was hoping for a chicken but the only one was a scraggly old bird, which I guess why it was left on the shelf :D

I think I will have to re appraise my nuking meals and maybe lug out the S/cooker and sauce jars

Still mucking about with mobile providers, either too dear or too many obstacles to bother with. At least I have found one old SIM that has expired, one less choice there then

I've had scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast, when the colder weather comes porridge will enter in the breakfast choices :).

I went to Tesco this morning to get a couple of bits from there. I have now got into the habit of using all of the shops available to me since I have had trolley. On the way back I stopped off at Waitrose to have a look at the y/s stuff and like Farway found that there was plenty of stuff there but nothing I needed or was a suitable size for singles.

I had a look at their ready to cook meals. I like to do that to get ideas for things to make. They have 'easy to cook indian masala chicken breast fillets', so I did what I always do, wandered off reciting the ingredients in my head, got near the biscuits, got my shopping list and pen and wrote them down. So I've come home, got a chicken breast out of the freezer and I already have all of the spices, so I'm going to make some sort of a marinade up. I'll see what my version is like tonight :).

After all that excitement I think I will just have a cheese and pickle sandwich for lunch :).
  • Lunch coming up in a minute. I've got some cooked couscous to use up - so have the feeling it'll be Groundhog Day and repeat what I did with some of it yesterday. That meaning a sort of "rice pudding" type dish - cook up the couscous in milk with a bit of sweetening.

Got a pack of mixed green salad today - and singles problem time of "It's too big for 1" and so I guess that'll mean having it for both lunch and dinner every day - until it starts going yuk anyway before I'm able to finish it.

Found a recipe for healthy vegan caesar dressing (based on cashews) and so shall have a go at making that to go with it. Feel pretty confident that will be a recipe I do like.

In my Facebook feed this morning there was an unexpected car boot sale; I was thinking only the other day "shame there isn't a car boot mid week" .... and I looked at where it was and realised it's the one that I've never got round to doing since I first spotted it 4 years ago as it's quite a way away/nothing else round there.

So I went ... 15 miles there. So, before I've pulled in I've mentally said "You spent £6 in fuel to get here.... try really hard to find something".

I found a few bits and bobs.... not a lot really. But it was pleasant weather and I dawdled my way round....

There was a snack bar there - so I peeked at his burger prices, knowing that I'll come home and dig one from the freezer, cheaper. £3 for a bog standard ¼lb burger, £3.50 for a cheeseburger. Felt a bit "smug" I was going home to make mine for 50p :)

Stopped off at Hobbycraft on the way home - not to buy anything, just to mooch round and see what they have.... kill time as I knew I was "only coming home"... then stopped off in a random charity shop for the same reason (nothing there).

Home and I made a cheeseburger; intended to make just a burger in a bread roll with a splash of ketchup, but I then thought I might as well chuck some cheese at it. Considered chips, but decided to "not be a piggy".

I've portioned up the swede and stuck that in the freezer ... because I needed the container it was in to cook the burger.
