Farway: For those of us of a certain age converting prices back to real money is the quickest way to a heart attack. 13/- for a newspaper? What? 13/8d for a stamp? Never!!!
Apart from my boiled egg for breakfast I've not had to cook today. The sudden appearance of my granddaughter put all my plans askew. I took her to the beach cafe for lunch and having looked at the prices decreed that we would have a sandwich each.
Madam chose smoked salmon. My goodness, 4 year-olds are sophisticated these days.
I swallowed hard and chose cheese.
Later she had a disgusting looking ice lolly and I had half an ice cream cone. It would have been a whole one but I had to make a grab for Pickle's scooter and dropped it.
My lunch designated for today will now be eaten tomorrow and judging by the state of my purse the rest of the week will be bread and water. That's OK, I still have half a HM loaf in the freezer.I believe that friends are quiet angels

Good evening everyone,
Congratulations Kittie on the weightloss
Farway - oldie but goldie re the thorn. Try a poultice it really works http://www.homeherbals.com/bread--milk-poultice.html
Re Waitrose - my nearest is 32 miles away but apart from that we are reasonably well-served with 6-10 miles of here. There is a big Asda but it is a rubbish shop (always smells of fish and spilled milk) so I use Tesco for my home deliveries.
I shan't go into too much detail but I'm feeling pleased as I won my appeal this afternoon against being refused the mobility element of PIP. It took the Tribunal all of 5 minutes to reach a decision:D.
Breakfast was the usual and lunch a quick ham & cucumber sarnie. The ham is the wafer thin stuff which I don't usually buy and can't say I was that impressed. However, it was a freebie as my son bought it when he was home last weekend and forgot to take it with him so it's needing used up. So in true CFO mode that's what I'll do this week. Tonight I'm looking forward to the beef short rib with loads of gravy, runner & broad beans and either Ayrshire tatties or mash. :DThere will be gravy left though not sure about meat so I think a wee cottage pie might be in order for tomorrow, if need be I'll defrost some mince or if there is any meat left add a few brown lentils to bulk it out.;)0 -

That's the trouble ... it's not a worry over using it all .... it's that whole indecision about "how".
I'm funny about the brown too. I dislike anything that has/contains: fat, skin,
bone, gristle, sinews ... and that funny white "knuckle-like" stuff in chickens. I'm really a "pure breast meat, nothing funny - and let me inspect it under a microscope before it's cooked" person
I don't suffer with indecision at all and just decide what I'm having and take whatever steps are required to get it into my mouth, whether that's shopping, cooking, defrosting etc etc.
I was exactly the same with meat and still am! My Mum is the same whereas Dad will happily eat fatPasturesNew wrote: »I have cooked...... a cristless quuche
Evening All,
Well after all that Mum and I were too stuffed from lunch to want anything else so I came home about an hour ago and Dad was being offered an omelette and salad haha. The pub we went to was lovely and well done up with a micro brewery in the basement. I had a roasted vegetable and feta cheese wholemeal pitta served with salad and very tasty skinny fries followed by a chocolate fondant pudding with ice cream. A pot of tea and I was a happy bunnyI may have some toast or a crumpet or 2 later if I'm hungry.
Kittie Well done on your weight loss :T
Caron Glad the mobility bit is sorted for you at last :j
I am very well catered for with supermarkets round here and have Tesco, Aldi, Lidl, Asda, Sainsbury's, M&S, Morrisons and various Co-Op's within a 5 mile drive. My nearest shops are actually Aldi, Lidl and a Tesco Express which I could walk to if I wanted. No Waitrose that I know of but there are a few on the way into Manchester.0 -
Caron -:beer:. So it's champagne with dinner tonight is it?
That's good news and worthy of a little celebration.:D0 -
Thanks SunnyG & MTSTM, I'm actually not that keen on fizz so a wee glass of red will be had!
It's a bit of a hollow victory - I'd much rather not be in a place where I need it.0 -
"All" I've had since my quiche has been 6 digestives. The onion in the quiche keeps reminding me it existed!
Whoo hoo you made it :T Was it good?
It's so easy to forget easy/great tastes though ...so much food, so much choice, so little time to get through it all.0 -
PN Resolve to make it once a month from now so you don't forget how yummy it is
Caronc I get what you mean about wishing you didn't need itbut at least you have more support either way now.

I've just thought out the answer to why I haven't made more quiches in my lifetime - and it comes down to something most CFOs can recognise... it's, in part, that elusive thing called "the perfect sized dish" to make a small one. Not having a vast collection of cookware, it's only recently I've picked up some dishes that are "just the right size" - and even today I chose the wrong sized dish ... but I've now tried all the small dishes I've acquired over the last 2-3 years and have decided which one is "the perfect size"
The perfect size for a 1-egger is a small ceramic round dish, not the square one I tried today, that I bought from the 99p shop
I need to make a few more to test the theory that I finally have "the right sized dish" ...
Years ago I had some proper, large, quiche dishes, with the wavy sides... all far too big for me to ever use them to make one. Got rid of those donkeys' years ago.0 -
Breakfast - fruit and overnight oats.
Lunch - rest of the soup from yesterday.
Dinner - rest of the rice, vegetable and lentil mix with kimchi and nori.
Snacks - fruit, cucumber and peanut butter on rice cakes.
Drinks - coffee, water, green tea, mint tea, coconut water and for a treat a portion of chocolate soya milk.
Caronc I'd agree about how it feels like a hollow victory. I've not long had my PIP assessment so am waiting for the results. I'm sure if I get what I 'should' get it will feel very hollow but with how my disability effects me I know if I get less it would be wrong. Hope you enjoyed your small glass of wine.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
Thank you for those links, Kittie. WholeFoods was an excellent shop but our nearest was over 20 miles away and it was very expensive. We do have a small local shop but not much choice and again very expensive.0
