There'd be fuel, parking, ferry ....then what? Sit on the kerb on that side as I've got nothing to do and no money to do it with ... when I can sit at home on the Internet already for free
I'm where "the stupidly expensive sheds for the super rich" are based.
My day so far hasn't gone to plan. I dry my washing on the line in the garden - so it has to be a dry day to do it - but there's a building site next door creating dust/dirt, so it's not possible Mon-Fri. So washing can only be done on a Sat/Sun. This morning I got it all together, sorted it all out, bagged it up, put it in the car - and checked the weather on 2 sites and the BBC NEWS. It indicated a 1½ hour window of opportunity to get it line-dried a bit - and as the items I am washing are small (not a huge load of mostly quilt covers and/or bath sheets) I decided I could live with that.... and you never know .... I might get 2 hours.
Then, just as I was about to drive to the launderette - bl00dy builders turned up - churning and grinding and working with hardcore, but I still thought I'd go with it - so did the washing and got it all out on the line by 8.45.
It's now gone quite dark out there ... and I've put up my two airers. I'll now be living in a chinese laundry for the next 2-3 days!
Food.... no bl00dy idea. Have to see what I fancy, but I daren't start any form of cooking now in case it suddenly tips it down and I have to dash out and grab everything indoors.
Everything's in my living room (my one room, 12'x13') - my folding chair, vacuum, shopping trolley, airers, assortment of small gardening tools "handy in case I just need to snip something", and an assortment of things I've put down over the months as there's "nowhere else for them to go and I might need it again soon" and, as I use the patio doors to enter/leave the house there's also a selection of footwear I've used most recently so am likely to want to step into again soon. You can only tidy up, really, if you have a place for everything...
EDIT: And it's raining. Luckily I'd just gone out to check how the drying was going and I thought "I can feel a couple of tiny spots of rain" and thought it best to get it all indoors ASAP! And just as I was bringing the last item in the big spots started hitting!
Just need to jiggle it all about on the airers now .... but I managed to get 2½ hours' drying done, so that's not too bad.0 -
Up before the lark this morning, even had to put light on in the bathroom it was so early
Being early I went mad and had scrambled eggs on toast for breakfast, with one of my own grown toms on side to beef up the veg count
With the early start I had finished the spot of volunteer gardening before most shops opened and forecast rain starts. Had a mooch round Asda, YS cuc and some YS sausage rolls that I have been fancying for ages, today was the day I bought some
Plus two frozen Oriental chicken thingies, Kung Po and Korma from Iceland to venture into untried food territory now I have some freezer space
Back home it was coffee & one of the sausage rolls, with blob of ketchup for early mid morning snack
Lunch will tick off another of my keep fancying them items, cheese on toast, possibly with HM chutney
Dinner, as a lot of CFOers. not sure, loads of choice a usual, but LO half of the cold pizza from the other day may be CBA option of the day, or if rain starts and weather is dank perhaps zap one the new chicken thingiesEight out of ten owners who expressed a preference said their cats preferred other peoples gardens0 -
I just had late breakfast/early lunch ....
1 large hash brown, 2 scrambled eggs, 1/3rd tin of beans, splash of the brown stuff on top:) Very warming and tasty.0 -
Drying washing is something I find more problematic than I did prior to moving Pastures.
In last house the bathroom was big enough to get a clothes airer in and I wasnt too bothered about putting a second clothes airer in the large walk-in shower either (knowing I would be moving from the house one of these days...so if there was a scratch from it...not too bothered...). Being a house as well - then I could/often did hang a sheet to dry over the bannisters and it wasnt a problem (despite my sheets being of a size suitable for a 5' wide bed and some for a 6' wide bed).
Then I moved to a bungalow/area with worse weather and a tiny bathroom. Cue for having one clothes airer getting in the way somewhere or other in the house and looking odd and no banisters to hang a sheet over. Sighs...has to be a lot more organised re the washing these days at the moment - until I can afford to add the conservatory I've always been going to have on my "final house" (whichever house it turned out to be).
I did wash two of my massive sheets at once the other day without thinking about temporary reduced facilities situation. Duh!!! So I pulled one of my curtains right back and hung the sheet over one of the curtain rails instead. Might this be a solution for you if need be?0 -
No plan today for food past breakfast of fruit and overnight oats.
I have a soup (store bought, was reduced and froze it as soon as I got it home) defrosting in the fridge but that is for tomorrow when I get home from work.
Not even entertaining the idea of going to the shops today. I have plenty in, just no idea what to have. Had planned on a home made ready meal today but forgot to take it out the freezer last night and can't remember how to defrost using the microwave.
OH well. Coffee for now, will have breakfast later. Then I'll worry about what to eat.I am a vegan woman. My OH is a lovely omni guy0 -
Of course, the weather this morning on the telly indicated that once the rain arrives that's it, it'll just get wetter and wetter for the rest of the day.
The reality is that it rained for 5-10 minutes, then stopped.... but I'm not going to go into the shed and get the line out and put it up again then hang everything out again.....moneyistooshorttomention wrote: »I pulled one of my curtains right back and hung the sheet over one of the curtain rails instead. I'd not trust them to be honest. One's hanging off the wall as it is, only got a thin net hanging on that one and petrified when I walk past it.
They were clearly put up by somebody not understanding how to fix them to modern/new build plaster walls and so I'd rather not leave the room and 30 seconds later hear a loud bang
I've theoretically three windows it would be possible at:
- the one that's hanging off the wall, so that's no good
- the upstairs bedroom, which'd then look "bl00dy odd/typical Council" to the neighbours
- the living room one.
But, also, it's a long way up there when you're a midget, so the logistics of getting the steps and trying to get anything hanging from it, or hanging over it would just be too problematical.... and before you know it I'd want to close the curtains and still have the same issue.
Next year I will have a "wet room" which is where I plan to have it all on airers + I plan to get a rail fitting in there where I can simply affix/remove the rail on a whim for drying.0 -
Good morning CFOers
Only a bit windy here and sun forecast until 1pm apparently. It absolutely bucketed it down with rain yesterday so it's nice to see the big yellow ball in the sky.
At work today with my lunch of ham and chutney sandwich, a yoghurt, a banana and a choccie biscuit. Tea this evening is scrambled eggs and beans on toast as I don't usually feel like cooking once I get home. Also have to post DS2's birthday card to America as it's his 19th birthday soon.
Not much else to report really but have good days all.0 -
I'd go for the upstairs bedroom window from what you say PN. Would anyone think "typical Council" anyway? To me - I didnt bother - because there's no way anyone would ever think that anyway about my house.
The only thing I've ever thought anyone might think about my house is "old person place" - and I've been doing my best ever since I bought it to make look more modern/younger and fitter person here/etc/etc - and I think it's a large part of the way towards not looking "old person-y" any more.0 -
Afternoon everyone,
I decided to have an easy breakfast this morning of Greek yoghurt and berries (the cba/no effort required option).
Lunch was a tuna mayo sandwich, I thought I had better open another tin of tuna. I keep working my way through them, even though I'm sick of tuna sandwiches and don't fancy it in a pasta bake or risotto, or even salad.
Dinner is a repeat of yesterday. Another portion of the Shepherd's pie with some steamed veg. I froze the last portion of shepherd's pie.
Today is a typical CFO cba/use up things day.

I'm starving; it's raining .... and I really fancy a big hot pie with lashings of mash and gravy...... that means going out and buying a family sized pie .... but I'm tempted to do that.0
