That must be where my mum got it from.... the 1950s.
Salad was always lettuce, cucumber tomato. After that she looked a bit confused that you'd want more .. and ask "what do you want then?" and we'd have to specify boiled eggs, cheese ... maybe pickled beetroot ..

I never did end up shuffling to the shops.... and then it was too late!
Then I realised I've not eaten a thing today! But I didn't fancy the chicken ... so I got the final frozen bread roll from the freezer ....and the last 3 fish fingers .... and the squirty salad cream.

    Job done :)

Thanks for all the advice re the chicken.

I have decided to leave it until next weekend.

I will defrost them all in the fridge for as long as it takes then poach them as caron suggested.

    Thanks again:)
If they are a solid lump they may well take 48 hours + to thaw out.
I can't find the energy to cook anything today. I had a really bad night and it has left me feeling totally wrung out. I've spent most of the day dozing on the sofa.

I have managed yet more toast and crumpets, but I've eaten the last of the crumpets :(. I had intended to go to the shops today.

Dinner will be beans on toast and maybe scrambled eggs to use a couple more up.
Nothing wrong with beans on toast. Hope you have a better night tonight Holly.

Salad when I was growing up was always round lettuce, tomatoes, cucumber and either spring onions or ordinary onions sliced in a little sugar and vinegar. We usually had with tinned ham or hard boiled eggs or leftover roast meat. We only seemed to have beetroot (pickled) in the winter, same with red cabbage. My mum used to pickle beetroot, red cabbage and onions every year in the Autumn that were opened on Boxing Day and then used up thereafter. We quite often had pickles with stovies or corned beef hash:D.

My sister took most of the LOs :D, so I've just some keema left which I think might make a tasty cottage-type pie:).

I think the sound of this using cans please can you share the recipe.

    http://www.cannedfood.co.uk/recipe/vegetable-lasagne/

I halved it so one can of everything. I didn't bother with the 3 types of cheese, just used cheddar as its what I had. I also added an onion that needed using up and some frozen sweetcorn. I recommend you put some other leftover veg in to add a bit more flavour/substance.

For such a cheap dish (it made 3 portions) I was impressed.

That sounds like a great store cupboard dish. :)
  • farway, I am delving into my first pot of hm yogurt tomorrow, it looks thick and creamy and that is down to using jersey milk, which is also easier for the lactose intolerant as the proteins are different to normal milk. I had a half original yogurt to finish today, I think I will be having my first hm yogurt with stewed apple, berries and a few nuts for breakfast. The temperatures are key and if using skimmed or semi-skimmed then you need to add dried milk to make it thicker. Using the same bacillus over and over will gradually lead to thinner yogurt, at that point then new starter needs to be added. I should think that yeo natural or rachels natural would work as well as the brown cow that I used. You can also buy bulgari starters from amazon and I have some, just in case. The use by is 2019

I believe that the veg juice is what helped me to lose weight, I felt full all afternoon. I did have the small pizza that I made but craved nothing else and two halves of sd lightly spread with peanut butter was good

The sun shining in was lovely this afternoon, I gave in at 2 and had a doze in my zero gravity chair. It was a lovely nap and I could feel the warmth on my legs. I woke up with yesterdays stiffness gone, having stood all day crafting.

Tomorrow I am having a bit of food change, breakfast will be some rolled oats mixed with a few nuts, fruit and hm yogurt. I will skip second breakfast, except maybe a cube of cheese for protein, if I wake early. Lunch will be veggies stir fried in a little water with aminos and a little edamame pasta with pesto. Teatime, the same sd with scraping of peanut butter as that helps me sleep through, I digest food slowly so don`t feel hungry until I eat again 12-13 hours later
  • Been CBA all weekend. Anyway today was lunch of sourdough bread with someone else's posh hummus and tomatoes, followed by sharon fruit.

Dinner was doing a bit of use-up of cheese and butter from freezer - so I did baked potato chips with a little butter and some grated cheese and served with salad (mainly from garden). So my salad was 2 types of lettuce, nasturtium leaves, sorrel, chicory from garden with a bit of watercress and tomatoes.

Followed that with an idea from another thread on here - ie of Greek yogurt with frozen cherries and some frozen berries from my garden straight out of the freezer with a bit of dehydrated crumbled apple scattered on top. That was nice.

I've just glanced out the back door and already there is a thick frost. It looks pretty but it's blinking cold. I'm so glad I put the flannelette duvet cover on my bed :D, the last few Novembers have been so mild here that I tend to forget it is actually winter round here. Thank goodness I've finished putting my garden "to bed" and all the tender plants are under cover.:) Rain forecast for later tomorrow but temperatures not expected to go much above 8C. I think soup will be made;)

A terrible thing happens if you don't go shopping for food.... you wake up, fancy a nice cooked breakfast ... and have no food in :)

I've got the last 3 hash browns and some beans, but that's not going to cut it, so I guess I'll have to go out and get some "basics".

*sighs* ... sucks to be idle.
  • Visions of Pastures reluctantly dragging herself out of the door....

I find shopping a nuisance too. Can manage some of it okay (food-shopping wise and otherwise) at times when I'm "in town" anyway for something I've decided to do socially. Then I can just tag the shopping on as "something I do afterwards". But admits I really have to "kick myself" into visiting the supermarket - as that's a "special trip". Does have to do a bit of reminding myself that the walk to and fro is just about long enough to constitute "a short walk" and therefore a bit of useful exercise:cool:

On that note - must get the breakfast together - as there's two social things in a row I have to get my backside out the door for this morning and am feeling distinctly reluctant - as the weather has turned really bad:(
