Lunch today was a Buddha Bowl - base of quinoa and topped with things like sauted shitake mushrooms/peas (in lieu of edamame - which I still can't find an organic version of yet)/watercress/seeds/a dressing based on white miso/roasted broccoli.

Not bad - though I felt the portion size specified by the recipe was inadequate - but liked the general idea. Just got a couple of slices of toast doing to fill me up....

Lessons learnt from that - never had roasted broccoli before - hmm...not sure about that - certainly needs shorter time than she said. Didnt know one could "cook" frozen peas by just pouring boiling water on and leaving them 5 minutes - noted. Didnt know one could add cooked peas into something one is sauteing for a couple of minutes - noted.

Milk experiments this morning = coffee with coconut milk and I decided I could drink it if I have to, but it's a bit too "greasy" to have by choice. Coffee with rice milk - not too different to my normal coffee with cows milk - a possibility. The coffee I have BTW is real coffee (a la cafetiere of very strong coffee).

Oh Heidi was my absolute favourite! Pease pudding sandwiches, however, I tolerated but don't share the same love as my north eastern peers.

I am eating a restriction, supposedly healing, diet called the autoimmune protocol. It's basically paleo without nuts, seeds, eggs, and nightshades. It's very restrictive but I'm following it strictly with what I can get. I can have coconut milk and coconut milk yoghurt (which is quite nice) I have started slowly on sauerkraut as aside from bread, alcohol and a dabble in failing at my own kefir I am not used to fermented foods and I'm scared of being ill from bad gut die off. I do this for about a month, maybe 2, then gradually reintroduce foods to see if I have a reaction. From what I know already I expect that grains, potatoes, tomatoes and possibly dairy are my problem foods (acid reflux, candida problems, vitiligo, asthma and poor immunity)

I roasted lamb yesterday and today the bones are in the SC making a stock.

Tonight we'll be having lamb fry up in a little of the lamb fat I saved from cooking yesterday.

Other than that I'm dealing with awful cravings while making cheese and ham toasties for my children (guilt ridden of course as one I suspect has a patch of vitiligo - but change is afoot when I get my skills up to scratch to roll it out family wide because I can't continue to buy and make for me and them.)

When I can eat nuts again I will be adding nut butters to stir fries money. :)
  • Dear me it is so cold here today, although the sun is out there is a chilling strong wind coming off the north sea and the leaves are getting a good shift from the trees. I nipped out to get a sympathy card and the car thermometer showed 7deg I think that has been the lowest daytime temp so far.

Yesterday I got back just before 5pm really hungry and took the easy option and chucked some fish fingers and chips in the oven, had them with sweetcorn, salad & beetroot.

Today is very much a use up fridge stuff/defrosting and nuking kind of day. I opened a pack of bacon mid-week and used a couple of rashers, used another 3 in a bacon butty this morning, that leaves 3 which I thought of putting in a quiche but cba making so will separate them with greaseproof paper, wrap in cling and freeze them for another time, what with cooking the gammon joint and having pea & ham soup for lunch as well I feel a bit OTT with processed pig.

So tonight will be good old Bolognaise from the freezer and another opportunity to try and use up some of the buckwheat pasta that I'm not so fond of, question is what to have on the side......inspiration anyone?

Where do you buy at 80p? Nutella is one of the few things I always stick to branded as never found a cheaper one I like.

It's not the branded one. I'd never had any choc spread until a couple of years ago - then I tried a jar at random and liked it, so bought more. I get the 80p jars at 45da. I can't compare it to the original as I've never tasted the original.

    I use two jars/year ... which I buy together... if I bought three jars at a time I'd use three/year :)

    400g 80p (20p/100g)

....pouring boiling water on and leaving them 5 minutes...
It's how I always do it. Mug, peas, water.... sit on one side until it's time to serve. Then I'll often just nuke 20 secs. But there's no real need necessarily.

Had the chinese leftovers, knocked up an egg fried rice with it. Had a few prawn crackers too.

For later: I've still got a bit of mash and carrots leftover from the other day's big yorkie.... don't want to make another yorkie (not enough stuff to go into it) ... so I might just nuke the mash/carrot for tea with a splash of gravy.

I've also scoffed about 10 individual choccies.

There's the last of the 3 mini cheesecakes in the fridge, that might not make it to the end of the day ....

    Afternoon all, and welcome mum2one

Today was all planned, pot of tea, loose leaves for lazy breakfast, with toast & HM ginger marmalade, then phone call, to go out for the day, walking in West Dean gardens. A lovely sunny day as well, so farewell Morries mooch, except to raid the cash point

The planned lunchtime sarnie thus became baked salmon in buttery dill sauce, with all the veggies at Chichester

Now back & full, with a pot of savoury mince [was tonight's dinner] LO in fridge. If I do not have it tomorrow that is one for the freezer, which is how CFO can go awry and freezer bunged up

The salmon was lovely, not something I buy these days, always seems to come 2 in a pack, and I'm not taking out a mortgage to buy one fresh fillet in W/rose

fuddle, be sure to get the un pasteurised sauerkraut, otherwise it salted cabbage without the goodies. I was just thinking, fuddle, It is made with quite a high percentage of salt ie it is shredded cabbage beaten down with salt and the liquid rises and it is left to ferment. Maybe look at a capsule a day, for salt safety, instead. About 50p a day

I had a doze by accident, listening to `12 years a slave` sun was out and I was so comfy. Its already cold out, even the sky looks cold

I love loose leaf tea farway

Simple food soon, sd toast and small lump of goats cheese

I keep some dried milk , organic full cream and it needs mixing like baby milk, a little water first. Its for cooking if I run out in winter
    wholefoodsonline or amazon

I had a last minute change of mind. I removed the mash and carrots from the fridge and thought "if you put a bit more effort in, you could do a cheese, crispy onion & potato pie". I rarely do that as the onion adds about 10 minutes in total. mash/cheese = 2 minutes, add the onion and it's 12 minutes.

But I did bother today ....and it was ..... pheNOMENAL!

If only I had bothered to open a tin of beans ...eh.

Does anyone know the cheapest place to get those foil dishes with the cardboard tops that you can freeze in and put straight into oven. Do £land sell them?
