Beware of this!
It takes an eternity!
So if you have some important work to do, do not let your computer begin this update until you can leave it to do its thing for hours.
I am fuming. I needed to use my computer this morning and switched it on before breakfast to give it time to do its little updates etc before I needed to use it.
But no.
Microsoft had other ideas.
Yesterday, when I switched off, I chose the "Update and shut down" option thinking all would be ready today.
After breakfast, it was still only on 16% of its interminable update.
By the time I had to give up and leave, it was on 43% so I left it running on its battery because I didn't want to leave it wasting mains after the update had finished while I was out.
Returned this afternoon and it was only just then reaching 100%!
All flamin' day!!!!!
How the bleep does Microsoft expect people to be able to use their computers?
They had the cheek to display these "helpful" messages:
Do not turn off your PC. This will take a while.
You don't say!!!
We want everything to be ready for you.
So do I!
Making sure your apps are good to go.
I don't care about the **&%@ apps, I just urgently need to check my email.
It's taking a bit longer than expected, but we'll get there as fast as we can.
A bit longer? Don't try to pretend there's a caring human behind this fiasco.
Come on microsoft... people have important things to do, you can't jut tie up their computers for hours on end with these updates - break them into smaller chunks, tell users how long the update needs and let them choose a time.

Microsoft did let me choose a time to update.
The update didn't take long to download and install.
They can't tell you how long the update needs, because a lot depends on your BB connection and your machine etc. etc.
Doing updates on battery alone isn't advisable. I'm surprised your Laptop lasted all day without giving up. Are you sure it didn't sleep or anything while you were away?Drinking Rum before 10am makes you

I still think the way these updates trap the unwary is going to lead to people seriously considering Linux though. I know some retirees (just like me) who have become "kewl kids" (post above) and have no regrets.0 -
Windows 10 is downloaded in the background using Windows Update automatically, so even if your Internet connection is not reliable or you are intermittently disconnected at times, it will automatically resume once an active Internet connection is available!and picks up from where it left off.!
If you’re noticing Windows 10 running very slow, try changing the Initial Size and Maximum Size to the Recommended File Size for both.
– Open up Control panel
– Type in “Performance” into the search field
– Click “Adjust the appearence and performance of windows”
(or Right-Click on My PC and select Properties)
– Open Advanced tab and click “change” button

My update didn't take long. If I were you I'd run some diagnostic checks on your machine. You know what uranium is, right? It's this thing called nuclear weapons. And other things. Like lots of things are done with uranium. Including some bad things.
