I've been asked for my bank details and a copy of my passport for compensation?

Hi! I followed all the MSE guidelines and was thrilled that Meridiana Airlines have agreed to pay compensation for my flight delay. However, they are saying that in order to pay me I need to send them a copy of my passport along with my bank details?! I feel like this is a risk of my security and am not happy at disclosing so much personal information?! Is it safe to do this? Please help! Thanks so much
