Round our way where drives are adjacent if not shared they are usually delimited with something if tarmac or a soldier row if block.

perhaps i should have said thankyou to him for pretty much calling me a liar then..................
Perhaps you should have ignored him, or just politely denied his accusation rather than chucking insults around in response? Gosh, it's funny how things can escalate when people are unreasonable, isn't it. Who'd have thought it?

check the deeds, many will have restriction on fences at the front especialy new builds
  • Just stick a few low level planters down side of your driveway (on your side). Job done.

    This.^

All you had to do was point out where you made it clear in your OP that there were two separate situations.

Lucky for you that you have a friend facing exactly the same problem you are going to have.

  • I have the exact same problem. Our driveways are one big slab. They have their house - I have mine. Both sides of the driveway are 40 feet across for each house. They were model homes for our neighborhood back in the day. The people next door use my driveway all the time for whatever suits them. If they want rock or materials in their backyard, they just park between the houses. They park a truck in that place occasionally overnight to plug it in when it's cold. If they have a pile of rocks or dirt in the driveway, they will back out and onto my property. It's not petty. It's a matter of respect for me and my property. All they have had to do is ask but instead they are sneaky. I am in the process of having the holes bored into the concrete for the chain link fence I am putting up. And yes, I'm a surveyor and pulled the plat and surveyed my own property. Go for it and get rid of the stress of it all. They show no respect for you.

Can't see the photos but from the description it seems petty. I have a similar-sounding set-up with my neighbour and we use each others' driveways to turn and manoeuvre when we need to. It just makes things easier for both parties and helps neighbours rub along. It extends to letting each other park in the other's drive when one party is on holiday, to make it appear the house is occupied and for that short period, the second car is easily parked without blocking the first.

Maybe I should consider some white lines, a fence or even a toll booth to charge my neighbour for wear and tear each time he trespasses on my drive? He could employ a reciprocal arrangement then although we'd resent each other, we'd be quits at the end of the year, so all's well.

<<This>> Whatever happened to being neighbourly? So many people these days too far up their own !!!!!! about what is theirs and what other people have done to offend them.

  • Reminds me of that episode of Steptoe and son where they cant decide what colour to paint a wall and so split the house in half with a toll both at the front door, and this idea of putting a fence up makes as much sense.
