enough:mad: went to Spain for 6 weeks in the summer, took out travel insurance with Halifax, lost my wedding, engagement and eternity ring in the sea, got all the relevant paper work,9spanish police report, receipts, travel docs, photos of the rings) wedding ring was £50 argos, £164.99 engagement and eternity £235 (replacement at xmas 2006) they rang today and say they will pay for the wedding ring £50 but I pay that in excess and a s a good will gesture (it apparently says on page 31 they only cover a wedding ring jewellery wise and that is that
) they will pay £140 of the engagement ring but will not cover the eternity ring, why?
They ask for the home contents insurance when you apply for an insurance claim which we sent also, surely I am covered in personal belongings?
Anyone an insurance expert on here and know why?

Halifax will have covered you for travel insurance.
Personal possession cover on your home insurance would have covered you for things lost outside of the house.
If you only have standard cover then your home insurance will not cover you in this instance.
How did you manage to lose them in the first place?
Were they loose - if so why wear them?0 -
travel insurance usually only covers for 31 day trip - did you extend it?
as ejones says, personal belongings is an add-on optional to home insurance. do you have this?0 -
Hi - personally I think travel insurance is misnamed - what you are essentially buying is medical insurance with, as you've discoverered, very limited cover otherwise.
I imagine they were asking for your home contents insurance details in the expectation that you would be putting in a claim through that also and they would liaise with them who pays out what. If you were able to claim through your contents ie if your insurance would cover these items lost in this way, you'd have to consider whether any excess you have on your contents and and any increase in premium next year for making a claim would effectively wipe out any payment you might receive from your home insurance.0 -

I guess they must have been loose as I was swimming in the sea with them on my finger, came out and they were no longer there:eek:
I think we have personal belongings yes....0 -
Check with your insurers.
You may be out of time in claiming though!0 -

You say it's in their t&c's which you presumably read before taking out the policy ... (or at the very least before making your claim) so you would know before claiming you weren't covered.
The answer to why your not covered is because the policy you chose didn't cover you.
Unless they're going against their own t&c's (which you say yourself their not) I think this should be a 'well done halifax post' as their giving you more than your entitled to as a good will gesture.Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.
Because what the world needs is people who have come alive.0 -
well yes and no littlejaffa yes I read where it says it covers up to £500 in valuables and the jewellery was valuable to me and considered insured, according to them on page 31 the only thing jewellery wise covered is a wedding ring which no I did not read so am culpable of that but how is it so that jewellery is one thing but not another?0
-
Do they not define valuables anywhere?Gone ... or have I?0

I don't think it really matters, if they say clearly on p31 like you mention that they won't cover you, i don't think you can realy blame them when they won't cover you.Don’t ask what the world needs. Ask what makes you come alive, and go do it.

They ask for details of your home insurance so that they can if they wish check with the insurer that you are not claiming twice. They may also expect you to claim on that first, if it covers you.0
