sofa not fit for purpose

We spent £1200 on a 2 seater leather electric recliner sofa from oak furniture land and paid for the accidental damage cover last August. When it was delivered the delivery men refused to take it off the van unless we signed it was ok first which i complained about straightaway to their call centre and wasted my breath. It arrived scratched, it fitted together badly and as you recline the leather footrests rub against each other noisily and jerkily. Oak furnitureland didn't care about any of that and said it would settle in. So with 2 months of manufacturers warranty left i called them out as the rubbing foot rests had unsurprisingly rubbed off the colour and was making a hole and the sofa back was still wonky. They sent out homeserve who said the sofa hadn't been assembled properly in the first place and fixed that and then dyed the damaged footrests and pronounced there was no manufacturing fault and this wear would not be covered by the accidental damage insurance either. Oak furniture lands attitude is its leather on leather what did you expect? Well better then this! A warning in store? This sofa has not lasted a suitable length of time ( before looking like a dog has chewed it ) and the quality is questionable and i really feel we should have been warned what would happen. Do we have no rights? i feel like we have been ripped off. Oak furniture land say that repair is guaranteed for a year and basically we are lumbered with the sofa wearing itself in holes in an unacceptably quick timescale after that.

Did you pay by CC or a finance?0

Unfortunately you are another victim of the OFL model. Get the units shifted, keep the money rolling in and don't worry about any other aspects of good business practice.
It works until people begin to do research before purchase, realise what a bunch they can be and then avoid using them.
It did for MFI, hopefully this lot won't be far behind.
You may need to take this much further with threat of Court to get them to act.
The sad fact is for what you spent you could have had an excellent piece of leather furniture with a 10-15 year manufacturers guarantee which would have been honoured if a fault developed.0 -
So you were bullied into signing pre delivery then they didn't bother to fix it together properly, Allowing the foot rests to be unduly worn. I used to sell, deliver and fix together these type of sofas, its not difficult. But as stated above this lot are typical of the grow it big and to hell with the quality, I would go with that advice from daveyjp
But take some photos and email them to the company so that you have a record.
Maybe have a search around on here to see if anyone is going though a similar thing, it always helps to read about others experience, use the search bar above.0 -
Hi yes i paid by a barclaycard visa credit card. the number has updated in the meantime and i can't find the actual payment machine receipt slip but it will be on my statement from last august alright.0

OFL insisted i send them a selection of photos with rulers and the issues marked on the photos both times before they sent someone out so there is definitely a record for me and them. Are there any decent firms out there? OFL are also the sofa company so will never use them, i have previous experience of DFS and when i tried a local companies one when bust and the other washed their hands completely when an issue arose saying they didn't deal with that manufacturer any more and that was that.0

Yes it will be on your statement
Places like that don't care about customers.
Look at World of Leather and how many times they did things like this and then just go into administration only to open up again with a similar name in the same premises with the same staff and same stock.0 -

Hi there, sorry to hear that you've had such an unpleasant and expensive experience with OFL; sadly the internet is peppered with dreadful reviews for them.
I realise that this is rather late in the day for you now, but we have bought lovely furniture from Reynold's Furniture, a family run business since 1867 (so hardly a fly-by-night firm!) I've bought four sofas and various other bits of furniture from them and found them incredibly helpful and efficient (which makes a refreshing change these days.) They're fairly local to us, so I tend to visit their shop when buying anything, but they have a website from which you can order.
Regarding your claim for section 75 from Barclaycard, I would be inclined to ring them ( I always prefer telephone or face to face contact when dealing with an awkward situation.)A cunning plan, Baldrick? Whatever it was, it's got to be better than pretending to be mad; after all, who'd notice another mad person around here?.......Edmund Blackadder.0
