Parkinticket, someone has our numberplate

Just had a parking ticket, somewhere I have never been.

I looked at the picture and it is the same car as ours similar colour, and the exact same number plate.

The picture can see clearly it is not our car, clear different, but it has our registration

Please tell me what should I do, call the police? Which number?

Council ticket or private parking company ticket? Who issued the ticket?

If private then it's quite probably an ANPR camera misread. Does the VRM printed on the ticket match the VRM on the photo?

If private, take this to the Parking Tickets sub-forum.
If Council, take this to Pepipoo forum. (Don't try to register with a Hotmail address).

It's council, and yes somebody has made an exact copy of my number plate.

Follow DoaM's advice about the ticket.

Report the suspected cloning to the police on 101. Consider asking DVLA for a new number.

If the photo shows a car that ain't yours displaying your VRM then report to Police on 101 and DVLA.

Police may want to see your car to verify its identity by chassis number etc.

Worth doing in case any more fines come through.

Sounds like it has been cloned, we had the same problem a few years ago, we kept getting parking fines from councils in the London area when we had never been there and could prove where our vehicle was over 200 miles away on the dates concerned.

Frankly the law were we not interested they commented that looking for a cloned car in London was like looking for a needle in a haystack.

We wrote and appealed to the councils concerned and they agreed to cancel the tickets when we explained why it could not be us, after further enquiries we found out that the vehicle concerned was not even the same make as ours, when we contacted the DVLA they agreed to issue our car with a new registration number.

Thanks all, I have photos of the clone from the parking tickets, it's the same car but I can see little differences.

Our number plate has the GB blue stripe and the clone does not.

Have reported to police, but how do I report it to dvla?

I'm making a file with my car and the clone pictures side by side, it's amazing they are almost identical but there is a small blue UK stripe on the number plates of one and not on the other

Dealers can make mistake with numberplates. Your car might have a numberplate ending in ABC, and the dealer may have put the same plates on the other car which should have had a plate ending in ABD.

I hope the ops isn't the clone.
