Insurance for garden contents

Having just bought some higher value furniture and grill for my garden I have found that my household insurance only covers up to £1000

Can anyone recommend a policy that is specific for garden items only so not linked to the house policy.

Thanks

Have you actually spoken to your insurer or just read the policy?

Is it £1,000 per item? I assume it is. Even if you need more cover than that I imagine you can specify which items go over the £1,000 and have them specifically covered on the existing policy (albeit for more premium).

Can't say I've ever heard of insurance just for garden contents.

No it is £1000 total. Yes spoke to them and cannot add specific items.

I just thought there may be a policy that does just garden contents.

What you need is an Household policy with more generous limits for contents in the garden/open.

A midnet worth policy like Hiscox or Chubb will most likely have higher limits, but you'll pay for that cover.

Alternatively, look on the defaqto website for the cover comparison tool, and look for contents in the garden. I'm not 100% it's an option but would assume it is, it's quite an exhaustive comparison.

Surely leaving high value items out in the garden is asking for trouble?
I lock expensive items away when not in use.

My policy has a £1000 limit for the garden. I was looking to turn a shed into a workshop but they wanted me to block out the windows and fit a lock designed for the house.

Way too much effort. And block out the windows?
