Renting a car in Europe WITHOUT a credit card

Evening all,

I wondered if any of you helpful people had any experience of renting a car abroad with only a pitiful, miserly debit card?

It seems most major companies will only accept credit cards. This has pretty much scuppered the main component of my holiday!

Does anyone know any way around this at all? Without applying for credit, that is...

    Europe isn't one country. Buy the car rental companies CDW waiver. Though call through to the location beforehand to double check that they will accept your debit card.

    I was wondering if the OP's choice of destination was going to depend on where they could find credit card free car hire.


    There are a few companies in Cyprus that do it... although geographically, Cyprus is in the Middle East.
