Policy cancellation - No reply

I wrote to Quinn-direct on 3 September, cancelling a car insurance policy with them. To date, I haven't received an acknowledgement, reply or pro-rata refund.
Obviously, I will write to them again, but what can I reasonably threaten them with?

Was the letter sent recorded or special delivery? If not, there's not much you can do other than send another letter as you have no proof that the original was sent/received.0 -
Re-write to them informing them that you are seeking advice from the insurance ombudsman and FSA (financial services authority). send it registered mail. Telephone them to tell them what you doing and get a name of the person you spoke to. Record the date and time. Keep notes of all calls, letters and any correspondence.0

A friendly call to them for an explanation may well do the trick. Record the name of the person you speak to, date and time.0

Assuming you sent the letter to the correct address (you'd be surprised!) give them a quick call as maybe it got mis-directed or is currently being looked into... and if you get no where with that, suggest then sending another letter. See how it goes from there. Last resort is above and beyond the insurance company.0

In view of the current postal situation, I went against all the advice I usually give others and rang them.
The pro-rata refund (about what I expected and in line with FSA guidelines: less 1/10th for the first month or part plus the £40 cancellation fee, which is annoying but LV and my faults) had been authorised but not actually repaid. I didn't ask why. I think I must be mellowing in my old age. The consequences of raising my blood pressure are getting too dire. Anyway, the refund should be on the relevant credit card account in the usual (but also vexing) 5 working days. The acquisition of wealth is no longer the driving force in my life.

Took out policy with Quinn direct on the 29th August after receiving good quote via price comparison sites. Cancelled policy on 31 August as I was required to send details of all insurers over the last 9 years (which I don't have details off any more) to get my 9 years no claims bonus. My fault for not checking this beforehand. Quinn direct agreed not to charge the £40-00 administration fee as the policy was cancelled within 14 days.
From mid September I have been calling them every week and every time they have a different excuse why this money has not been refunded yet. They also promise to call back with an update which they never do.
From this week I am calling them every second day while writing down all the call details. As their number is an 0845 number, it is not cheap to call.
Next resort will be a registered letter and complaint to insurance regulator.0 -
Next resort will be a registered letter and complaint to insurance regulator.
The FSA will not be interested in your complaint and will foward your letter back to the insurer.
There is a defined complaints process. First you complain to the provider of service (adviser or broker if they were involved, then company if fault is with them). Once they have reviewed your complaint, they will give their response and give the option to accept that or take it to the FOS. At that point you can take it to the ombudsman but not before. At no point do you go to the regulator.I am an Independent Financial Adviser (IFA). The comments I make are just my opinion and are for discussion purposes only. They are not financial advice and you should not treat them as such. If you feel an area discussed may be relevant to you, then please seek advice from an Independent Financial Adviser local to you.0 -
After constant complaining to Quinn who owes me £243 refund after I cancelled motor insurance with them, they credited my account with the correct amount on the 12th October. Hooray!
But, on the 15th October, debited my account with £202 (which was unauthorised by me) and on the same day I received a letter saying they owe me £444 less £35 administration fee which they will pay as soon as I send my Insurance Certificate back to them. The Insurance Certificate I have sent and they have confirmed that they have received it, over 4 weeks ago. Do the right hand know what the left hand is doing at this company?0 -
I went to cancel a policy with Norton insurance. This was on a 'classic car' basis, I was selling the car. The advisor informed me that because I had been on cover for over 4 months, I was not due any refund!!, "its in your policy". I was livid. Can I write to anyone about this?0

My daughter has a provisional license and bought a cheap policy with quinn direct. She paid Quinn Direct a deposit of £108.11 on 2nd october, the paperwork came through a few days later, she signed the dd mandate and I posted it off for her.On 25th october she received a letter dated the 24th october stating her policy has been cancelled. It appears that the dd mandate was not recieved...they can reinsure her but it will be much more expensive and another deposit is required. She was left uninsured for 6 days without being informed..is this legal??Also it appears that she has paid £108.11 for 17 days 3rd party insurance,as the deposit is non-refundable....Quinn direct....I'd steer well clear!0
