I boarded the wrong flight and missed mine.

OP I am sure BA will be most interested to get all the information you can provide about exactly how the scan went and any action you can recall from the gate staff.

Was the scanner a simple mobile unit on the gate staff desk i.e. not linked to any electronic gate opening mechanism?

One boarding pass scanned and giving an error that is misunderstood and then reset by an inexperienced gate staff without realising why it needed resetting is almost credible. But wasn't this two passes scanned separately, one after the other on the same scanner?

I am indeed interested in the how.

There were no gates or turnstile (unless this was retracted?) We were scanned at a fixed unit with an inbuilt upward facing scanner, the similar to the one used before security. Two members of staff operating one each side.

The boarding passes were scanned one after the other in a few seconds without any visual response from the scanner.

Its worth noting that our outbound boarding passes printed at LGW check in were coloured and branded. The ACL inbound were plain white.

I usually print my own or use an app, so wouldn't have recognised a wrong boarding pass unless it was very obvious. I only fly 2/3 times a year and mostly with mixed airlines, having never used ALC before.

    No reply from BA yet.

    That's pretty typical.

When flying from European airports on airlines like Monarch, the inbound boarding passes are not the same as the ones you get in UK airports.

The ones we've had are usually branded with the ground-handling company.
