Weird Bathroom Heater?!

Hi

I've been in my house 4 years now and recently the bathroom heater broke and I've got no idea what to do, you'll understand when I try to explain it!

My bathroom light has a round metal cage around it which contains a heating element type thing. Basically it's a metal coil/spring within a glass tube which heats up whenever the light is turned on. I think it's probably highly unsafe/illegal now!

Anyway, the glass tube around the metal shattered and the metal wire was touching the cage and kept shorting the house. I've managed to stop this happening but obviously very concerned about this heating wire being open in my bathroom!

How can I heat my bathroom if I take it out? Does anybody have any experience with these? I haven't got CH so getting a rad installed is not really an option.

Thanks in advance x

    Usually bathrooms in homes without central heating are heated by either an electric towel rail, underfloor heating or a wall mounted fan-heater. Heated towel rails and fan heaters themselves are cheap but you'll need an electrician to install them for you.

    Panel Heaters can do the trick too provided the controls are sealed from the user.

    You can still buy this type of heater;

    I suspect all yours needs is a replacement element though.

    Do you replace light fittings when the bulb goes? All you need is a new heating element.
