Well done on dealing with the pension

  • The micro irrigation is working!!
It is, of course, chucking it down.
  • Transplanted the strawberries to the irrigated planters and lifted, divided and then replanted in the previous strawberry bed 80 little garlics.
I still have a load more that I could do the same with but am not sure about where they could go if I want to plant anything else! Will pot up a few into planters and cross my fingers for inspiration. It's clear that the bed I had them in last year was way too stony (it was gravel topped before I removed and added compost - evidently the gravel had incorporated over the years) for anything rooty. This year it will have peas on it so not an issue. I will also do a bit of a compost top up. While I was veg gardening DS1 was pottering, including tying up the entire garden with the retractable washing line. Three year olds like the strangest things.

Erected a trellis for growing little squash up and then came in to make pancakes. Had to go out immediately to talk to the guttering man and DH promptly made enough batter to feed an army. Even though we had only crepes for lunch, there was plenty left for Yorkshire puds with tea... and there's still batter left for breakfast tmw 🤦‍♀️

County council came back remarkably quickly on the Teachers' Pension Scheme, and I'm guessing it gets queried a lot as they have a little form to fill in. Haven't had a chance today but must do it asap.

This afternoon I made 2 YS fish pies with Olio celery, one for dinner, one to freeze. I am planning to make a pineapple upside down cake with the large tin of pineapple chunks we have had in the cupboard for a while, and will hopefully rope DS1 in. He really enjoyed the communal pancake making this lunchtime even if DH did not keep a close enough eye on the lemon juice scattering!!!

Also need to trim the lilac before it gets started for spring - and use the offcuts to support the peas!

    Happy Shrove Tuesday everyone.

  • @ajmoney has reminded me, I had Lent plans. I'm giving up ice cream and I am going to write two or three real actual postal letters a week to people I haven't spoken to for a while or who live alone. Or both!

I have got to 39 of 46 ideas.  One of my ideas is to do a random act of kindness and fb tells me it is random act of kindness day today so I guess that is today's one sorted, working out what I can do in a lockdown will be interesting.

  • Replanted some more garlic into tubs with the aid of DS1 which means the dibbing was perhaps not at quite the right spacing!! He also helped me by taking the trimmings from the lilac in the front round the back. Not bad for a three year old, trotting helpfully back and forth. It began raining hard while we were out there so we came back in and made the promised pineapple upside down cake. For some reason DS1 was more interested in eating a pineapple ring, drinking the drained juice and licking out the bowl than really helping... he is very excited by the prospect of p.u.d.c. with custard for pudding tho.

DH got his call for his vaccine (he's in group 5) which is great.

Bit of a spendy day as I ordered my peach tree for the back garden. Still, offset by fleabay sales.

And I am reminded by looking at my diary that I need to do that pension form!

  • I think odd spaced dibbing is greatly compensated for by getting a small child involved in the gardening. I've been trying to get the motivation up to go and plant some more garlic cloves that are sprouting nicely in the garlic tub.

  • Today's adventure was planting tomato seeds, which he watered with the aid of a broken dog toy he found on a walk 18 months ago and has been devoted to ever since...

Nothing very MSE today. We built a tunnel from cardboard when it was raining heavily to exercise DS1 and then it stopped raining and he immediately demanded puddles so we went out :) only 6 working days of maternity leave left. :( but on the other hand I won't have to deal with DS1 trimming the cat's fur with his safety scissors (!!!) when I'm back to work...
