Neighbour building wall

My neighbour at the back of me has decided to build a wall - where the boundary line should be. This is of course fine with me but he has asked if i was willing to contribute to the cost. I at the time did say i could put a little towards it but this wasnt something i was planning on doing in the near future and therefore havent really budgeted for. Since then he has sourced the bricks (got this free) and dug a trench by himself and the only cost was for labour of building the wall and cement. The wall which does look quite nice. However the wall has been built on his side of the boundary line, it hasnt been properly pointed on my side. Am i expected to contribute to a wall that isnt even on my property?

no, you do not have to contribute to something that is 1, not on the property / land that you own...and 2 have had no real say over.
The pointing on your side is not his responsibility either. If you want it to look better, you could pay for it to be done better I guess.0 -
His Wall.
His Land.
His Property.
You don't really get a say unfortunately!
You could always build your own wall on your property with better pointing...0 -

No, it's not the OP's wall so they would have to ask the neighbours permission to do anything with the wall.0 -
What do you mean it hasn't been pointed properly on your side? Just because they can't see it, for the sake of the strength and longevity of the wall I would have expected it to be pointed properly on both sides.0

Has it been pointed on the other side, or are you just assuming it has?
Perhaps it's not finished?0 -
why not ask him when he's planning to come round and finish the wall on your side?0

Not if the OP didn't give permission (probably wasn't asked) for the builder to access the wall from his garden.TheCyclingProgrammer wrote: »What do you mean it hasn't been pointed properly on your side? OP, I think you have three options: Ask you neighbour if you can pay someone to tidy up the pointing on your side, build your own fence/wall/hedge on your side to screen the wall or live with it as it is.0 -
I assume by no pointing, the OP means it was laid overhand, and just doesn't look as nice.0

Not necessarily.
My last house was a Victorian terrace. Most houses in that area (including mine) had had kitchen and/or bathroom extensions added to them in the modern era.
The pointing of my extension had been done to normal (ie decent) standard on the side of it that was in my back yard (aka courtyard garden) and the end side (ditto). But I did catch a glimpse of how it was on the other side of my extension one time and it had been "slopped in" somewhat rather than neatly pointed in.
I came to the conclusion that the previous owner of my house that had added that extension had genuinely assumed it was being done properly the other side. The builders had been down there in the back yard of the other side's house (well - it was a 2 storey extension) and they hadnt bothered themselves to do it carefully - as they thought (then) owner of my house wasnt going to bother themselves and they could get away with bodging it.0 -

From the sounds of things, I'm sure OP would have given permission for them to come and point it properly if asked.0
