Cancelling PlusNet Broadband pitfall

Since I live in an area which is not 'low cost' and can only manage 1.5Mbps download via PlusNet (or BT) and no improvements are planned, I opted to take a 4G route which is obtainable with the right equipment and gives me 79Mbps download. My error was contacting PlusNet to cancel my broadband - a simple procedure and quickly done after paying the £30 cancellation fee.

What I was not told at the time was that PlusNet has broadband and broadband plus line packages - mine was the latter and cancelling broadband automatically cancels the line as well. Although I discovered the problem within 24h it was too late, PlusNet were unable or unwilling to undertake the work necessary to reinstate the line and I have lost my number

If anyone is considering something similar and wishes to 'port' their existing number to a new provider such as a voice over internet (VOIP) provider, although it still cannot be guaranteed to be possible, it certainly cannot be done if you have already lost your line which is easily done with PlusNet contracts.
