Thomson Flight Seats cost

Not a happy chap at the moment, booked holiday for my 50'th birthday treat and paid in full then go to book seat so I can travel next to my wife only to be ripped off for £50 for outbound seats, due to my size I need extra leg room but feel the cost is a joke, feel like I'm discriminated against due to being 6'3". To cap it off I had to pay another £19 to make sure I sit next to her on the way back. 😔😔😔😔 not good at all Thomson, I thought it was only the smaller firms doing the ripping off.
Be Alert..........Britain needs lerts.

I'm six four with long legs.

I've being paying extra not to sit with my knees under my chin for years, short, medium and long haul.

It isn't just Thomson or budget airlines that charge extra.

32" pitch in the standard seats should be ok at 6'3". My son is 6'2" and he is fine. Obviously extra legroom is preferable. Try being 6'6" with long legs, like my OH. We pay for extra legroom on shorthaul.

Plenty of airlines charge for seat selection and the list grows regularly.

Thomson Airways are only a small airline.

I'd be interested to know who the OP perceives as being the smaller firms?

To be honest I thought the likes of Ryan air and Flybe were smaller.
My rant was more to do with the fact that we have to pay to book seats together, I shouldn't have mentioned the extra legroom seat to be fair as I've always paid for those albeit only around £15. I just can't see how it can be justified to charge £9.50 for me to click on a seat number and press select.

It's just a way of making money and, to be fair, that's what commercial enterprises are set up to do.

    It is what it is.

Ryanair are, I believe, Europe's largest airline measured by international passenger numbers.
  • Ryanair are a huge airline, both by pax and number of aircraft. Even Flybe have far more aircraft than Thomson.

I'm 6 foot 3 and 20 stone. I manage okay with standard pitch.

The fee isn't about the cost to them, they know some people will pay it - and whoever set the price did a good job, as you paid up. :)

There can be a cost to them as by spacing some seats further apart, they can't fit as many rows of seats in.

Regardless of your height, the length of your legs really determines whether or not you are likely to be comfortable in a standard pitch seat... whatever the standard pitch may be. I have been unable to sit in some standard seats without either splaying my legs out wide and encroaching on the space of the passengers next to me or raising my knees up (and my feet off the floor) against the back of the seat in front of me. Both positions are extremely uncomfortable and not sustainable for any period of time.
