Wedding gift, when we really don't need anything

I suppose this could be in the weddings forum, but this is really more about dealing with family than the actual wedding.

I get married next month (yay!) and we're not making a big fuss. Just a trip to the RO and a BBQ / garden party later. We don't have gift list, nor do we want to do one because we've been together for 14 years and have everything we need.

But extended family (who can't make the trip down for the day) have been badgering my Mom for ideas of what to buy us for a wedding present for a few weeks now and then this morning, a colleague told me that they are going to do a collection, like it or not, and I need to give them an idea of what we want!

Now I'm not ungrateful in any sense, I'm more embarrassed by the situation in truth. I just have no idea what to tell them.

Does anyone have any ideas?

My daughter asked for contributions to her honeymoon. They were going to Orlando and came up with days that they could do if people sponsored it all or a part. Individuals were then thanked in their Facebook write up.

Oooh, I like the wine idea! That's a good one, thank you :)

And the holiday vouchers sound good x

I really don't like asking for money. I cringe at the thought. And I hate giving money as a gift :(

Donations to your preferred charity perhaps?

It's what me and the Mrs did, we already had plenty of stuff after combining the contents of two houses into one.

My daughter asked for 5euros as she was going to Italy. Doesn't break anyone's bank and it's not like asking for 'proper money'. She ended up with a tidy sum of spending money.
  • Do you have formal dinnerware? We still love all the lovely glassware and chinaware we were given. We had a gift list at a particular independent store that specialises in it. It's a life-saver when we want to host parties or have people around. It looks lovely in our cabinet.

Lovely idea, but I am the proverbial bull-in-a-china-shop. I will break nice china.
