Get Doctors in job centres there are far to many claiming to be sick of disabled when all they need is a kick up the back side.

This country needs some tough love.

Doctors often send evidence in support of the claimant and have this dismissed by less qualified people. Usually GP's know their patient better than other HCP's but their knowledge and experience can and is ignored, what a waste of money coming from the NHS to provide what the DWP can decide is useless.

Where appeals are upheld it is, I believe, usually won where extra medical evidence is provided, or where it was initially ignored. THAT is where the waste of money gets stupid and the only people not losing money are the outsourced company who have made the appeal necessary!

I'm not saying I completely disagree with you re. sometimes tough love might be needed but I understand what a teeny tiny proportion of fraudulent claims there actually are, it would seem you'd rather tar anyone with a potentially fluctuating condition a possible fraudster or lazy layabout.

Out of interest, how many businesses do you think will happily hire, train and have the expense of providing reasonable adjustments for a personal whose fluctuating condition isn't affecting them for the next 10 days only to lose them for 3 months? I don't think there are many.

Doctor - "What's wrong this person then?"

Job Centre employee "He has bi-polar and chronic depression"

Doctor "Thankfully my £600,000 tax payers training tells me exactly what needs doing"
The Doctor then proceeds to "kick" the person "up the back side."

Job Centre employee "Oh dear, we may have opened the taxpayer up to an expensive lawsuit"

Doctor "Never mind, this is much more fun than A & E"

Ludicrous suggestion Stop Watch. But thanks for the laugh!!

However this is so badly expressed (and spelt) that perhaps I have misunderstood Stop Watch's point.

Perhaps he is trying to tell us that too many doctors are sick, and it is those sick doctors who "need a kick up the back side", or perhaps they need to visit the job centres to find less stressful work.

    Who knows?

The point I was making was directed towards people who do not have a permanent illness or controlled illness. For example mental health, bad back or diabetic.

As for cost, it is about getting it right. The reason it is costing so much is because nobody likes having money taken away and will fight to keep it so use every trick and resource to do so.

This country needs some tough love.

And more people hospitalised under a section?

    More people committing suicide?

That's what happens when you push severely ill people into inappropriate work.

Some mental health conditions are temporary, some are life changing and at best manageable. But if you find a cure for schizophrenia, bipolar disorder etc please do let us know!
