Are you truly serious? The friend purchases a product from a national chain. It blows up on day one, leaving the kitchen in a mess, and several hours of cleaning. On inspection of the product, Argos admits blame and offers a poultry 75 quid. Not reasonable enough my friend, hell no!!

To the OP, talk to your CAB and also your local trading standards office to see what they have to say, never accept the first offer of compensation.

Also, how was the product returned back to Argos, did you have to return it yourself??? Cap fare, petrol, etc.... also your time............talk to CAB
So what would your estimate of a reasonable amount of compensation be - £500, £1K, more?

Has it left "your friend" out of pocket? and medical costs? or is this the famous claim culture kicking in?

The friend is not to blame here, Argos is, so they need to pay, its nothing to do with "claim culture" you suggest at all, Argos sold a doggy product.

    Woof! :D

Cost of item - has been refunded
Cost of redecorating - will be covered
Cost of time for cleaning - that's the £75 gift voucher
Other incidental costs and goodwill - can be negotiated
Damages for shock and alarm - would need to be part of good will, or claimed for in court ... good luck with that.

Nor should it be a blame culture. Argos have done the right thing and accepted there's a problem (they didn't have much choice tbh) and looking to resolve the issue with the buyer.

And argos have put the affected person back into the position they were in by refunding the product, paying for the repainting & have given them a £75 giftcard.

If there were any injuries then I would expect more but the fact is that there isnt.

No, the minimum the store should offer is a refund/replacement & covering the cost of painting.

Argos have offered more than this.
