preferential treatment for using EA's solicitor and broker

My parents had 4 full asking price offers on their house, proof that the bank would increase their mortgage to the amount required and the Agent told the vendor ' they have offered full asking price but they aren't in a strong position to buy atm.' The agent recommended that his friend who offered slightly lower was in better position his house wasn't even on the market at the time. This was several years ago.
There isn't a lot you can do as sadly the vendors will trust the EA more than a stranger.0 -
Quick update on this: the property is back on market at a reduced price. Listed at £15K less than the original listing price... That individual no longer works for the estate agent firm.

If your friend still wants the property - then yes. Why wouldn't you?
But be prepared for the same 'games' from the EA.
If it were me, I would put the offer in writing in an email, and ask for a quote from their solicitor, and suggest that I will talk to their mortgage advisor if/when the offer is accepted.
(And then perhaps 'change my mind' about using their solicitor, and about talking to their mortgage advisor, if the offer is accepted.)0 -
When choosing a solicitor and broker I would never use EA's. Too much conflict of interest.
