Avoid Adrian Flux insurance like the plague. Massive scam.

Took out insurance on Monday this week; realised the next day it was a telematics policy (black box job) which I didn't want. Called up and was told cancellation is £210 off the £440 insurance. W T F...

We haven't even received the telematics box and I haven't been sent any cancellation terms of breakdowns. OMG. Avoid.

So one days insurance has cost me £220.

What made you choose the policy in the first place? Was it price, cover, price, convenience, price, customer service reputation or price?

And how did you purchase it?

There is a 14-day cooling off period but the insurer is entitled to deduct sums for administration and any insured period, which would have all been detailed in the terms and conditions when the OP purchased the policy. I suspect the large deduction in this case is the admin of sending out the box and setting a telematics policy up. The question is whether the fees are proportionate and fair. The OP can complain, and pursue it to the ombudsman if they wish.

That's what I thought, don't you have 14 days to cancel and only pay for the time on cover plus an admin fee of c£65?

The distance selling regulations no longer exist: Insurance bought in this way is covered by The Consumer Contract Regulations. These WOULD give you seven days to cancel, but specifically exclude 'contracts for services where you agreed to the service starting before the seven working days has expired'.
    Adrian Flux's conditions state with regard to cancellation;
If you cancel within 14 days of receiving the policy information you will only be charged our policy issue fee (up to £100.00) and the Insurance Company's minimum charge for the time you have had on cover. These charges vary depending on the Insurer. Call our customer service line for more information.

How does an individual's failure to read an offer of insurance equal a scam?

It doesn't. Scam is a term that is very overused by people on here.

The insurer's terms and conditions are listed and would have been available to the OP, but in fairness, they do seem steep so might be worth a complaint.

Just FYI, I think hashtags only work on Twitter, I don't think they do anything on a forum...

It isn't a scam. All of the fees would have been outlined in the terms and conditions of the policy together with the fact that the policy was a black box policy.

Think of the £220 fee as a tax on the stupid.

For balance, I've been with Adrian Flux for two years and not had a problem. They were the cheapest insurer too. £286 for the year on a 3.0 supercharged Audi A8.

If you think the fee is unreasonably large considering the amount of work they have done in cancelling the policy, then you are free to make a formal complaint. It's not unusual for insurance companies to reduce the charge if you complain.

If you don't like their response, you can take it to the Financial Services Ombudsman.
    If it sticks, force it.
If it breaks, well it wasn't working right anyway.
