Slug victory?

After the slug heaven weather we've had lately, I've been clearing a lot of annuals which have finished flowering. We had quite a lot as I chucked them about to fill the space left after we took 8 barrows full of bluebells and muscari out of a bed. I fully expected to find loads of the slithy toves but I honestly didn't see one! There may have been some teeny weeny ones I didn't see admittedly. Two years ago I gave the whole garden the slug nematode treatment. Either it worked a treat or they've all drowned!

    they're hiding...

i must admit i've not seen that many this year, and while my courgettes are done for, everything else has minimal damage

nematodes are only effective for 6-8 weeks btw

Why am I in this handcart and where are we going ?

    ..

But if they're done for they can't lay eggs! It must slow the whole cycle down a bit.

  • Same here. We inherited a major slug/snail problem when we bought our house last year. Literally hundreds of the things would come out during the wet weather and decimate plants overnight.

I went on a bit of a massacre and (fingers crossed) the issue seems to be minimal so far this year.

Has he got a sheltered box or summat in there, and can he get in and out freely? If not, there are many plans for DIY hedgie boxes available online, or you can buy one. With a greenhouse palace and plenty of slugs, Meghan should be joining him soon for sleepovers - even if not in public view ....

Keep not using slug pellets, and you might get hoglets...

How wonderful, sadly haven't seen a hedgehog in years. Wildlife ponds even small ones are fab as toads are great to help keep the slug/ snail population in check.
