Without knowing exactly what type of aircon system is fitted to their vehicle it's impossible to know for sure if the £264 regas charge was excessive or not.

This is because the EU have decided that the old refrigerant gas used was too harmful to the environment so a new one has been introduced and this new gas (called R1234YF) is far more expensive than the older type gas and the cost for the gas alone for a medium sized aircon system will be somewhere in the region of £180 to £200.

just refilled with gas at a charge of £264
Another web-site suggested that sort of price. However, before filling it, they should first check for leaks ( by seeing if it holds a vacuum ) else they may as well have just vented it to atmosphere. If unsure, add a few percent, and make sure it stays in. I think part of the reasoning for the high price, is to ensure that it is recovered whenever possible ; like 5p for a carrier bag.

You are correct. It is R1234yf hence the high price. I previously had a Toyota Corolla done and that cost me £28. I have heard it was more expensive than "normal" gas but since I never thought for a minute that I would be charged (since its obviously leaking else it would still be in the system and the car was under 3 years old so still under warranty) I never checked the price out before visiting the dealership. It was only when I got the car back home and checked prices on the net I found I could have had it re-gassed at £79 at my next nearest dealership (1 hour drive away). Although of course re-gassing isn't want I wanted anyway. I wanted the leak found first (which the 2nd dealership found within seconds of popping the bonnet) !!

The 1st dealership told me that they would put a dye in the system so that they could see if it was leaking yet they never even offered for me to come back at a later time to check the system over. They just said they had checked it straight away and found NO LEAK. When I took it to the 2nd dealership they said there was actually NO DYE in the system anyway but they still managed to find the leak straight away.

Anyway dodgy dealership have now refunded the £264 to my debit card but apparently it takes 2-3 days to come through. I have a call from Nissan headquarters (managing directors office) in 3 days to make sure I am happy with the whole situation since I put an official complain in about the dodgy dealership.

Nissan will of course stick up for their dodgy dealership and have proven this by paying them back for the !!!!py service they provided me. At the end of the day I suppose they are still selling their cars for them so they will still look after them !

Nissan aren't sticking up for the 'dodgy' dealership - they're just keeping a Nissan customer sweet.

If Nissan wanted to keep me sweet they should have instructed the dealership to refund me straight away (5th June - which is when the other dealership diagnosed the fault and agreed to fix under warranty - this is also the date Nissan confirmed I would get a refund) Instead I have had to make numerous phone calls to both Nissan and the dealership to chase up the refund (each time being promised it will only take a few days). It was only last week that the dealership told me they were waiting for the money from Nissan before they would refund me. I didn't argue this and just waited until the first day of July to give them chance to get the money at which time they would have both MY money and NISSANS money.

I was already well annoyed by their awful customer service when they told me they would be issuing me with a cheque. I guessed they would then hold out for a day or so before they sent it, then it would probably be posted 2nd class, then I would have to take it to the bank on a Saturday (which is the only day I can get there) taking up more of my time + I would have to pay for parking ... hence my original question in this thread !

If Nissan REALLY wanted to keep me sweet they could have paid me the refund directly ... but that would have been far too convenient and efficient !

Wow that's put me in my place.

As I said before the dealership I worked for before wouldn't make a payment to any customer, for any reason, unless we had notification from the manufacturer that we were receiving the money ...and that was the same for any of the brands that we covered.

If we didn't have the complete set of paperwork to make a payment, that payment didn't made - end of....regardless of what the manufacturer told you.

So are you are telling us that a refund to a card used for the original payment is never possible?

    But hang on...
    The OP has told us:

How on earth is that possible?? ;)

Its crazy how you read what is actually put down. Just have a look over it again. Can you see anything that says something along the lines of 'it is not possible'?

Ooohh hang on it sounds like your saying you like to steal leprechauns and chase badgers with them? Really? Why on earth would you do that?

Please dont be upset that i told you the piece of legislation you went looking for (or more worryingly have remembered or keep on hand just in case?!) serves little purpose with this query. However you want to look at it im right. They either didnt use the same means of payment (a chip and pin device) or theyve broke the very rule you quoted by using a cheque or bank transfer as was the case. So which way would you prefer i be right?
