Last time I moved I think the total bill came to the high hundreds. I was pretty shocked to see that go up to 2K after doing some price comparison searches.
I even tried halving both sale and purchase prices but it made little difference.
Have I missed something or is that really the going rate these days?

is that including stamp duty?
How much is the house price? So many other stuff to add on such as gift declaration? Deeds e.t.c?"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

Includes everything except stamp duty.
Both houses are around 700. No change of name, no mortgages , no gifts just a straight sale and purchase.
That was internet based solicitors so presumably a "good local one" would be even more? !!0 -
My recent house purchase cost about £1000 in solicitor's fees, so a sale and a purchase...£2k sounds about right.
I know, rip off, right? :eek:If you know you have enough, you're rich.0 -
seen a house for 280k, and solicitors fees about 1500, so it seems about right for a house x2.5+ the house cost"It is prudent when shopping for something important, not to limit yourself to Pound land/Estate Agents"

We used a local solicitor last October for a sale and purchase no mortgage.
Sale price 330k purchase 380k. Total price including all disbursements and VAT was £2134
You may well find a local solicitor may be reasonably priced and certainly more accessible as you can deliver and collect paperwork from them quickly if necessary.0 -
Why is the solicitors fees related to the house price? Would Identical houses in the North East and Central London with vastly different values require different amounts of work from the solicitor, or do just see you comping and charge you more if you are buying an expensive house?0

If they screw up the conveyance of a million pound house they have more potential liability than if they screw up a piece of work on a £100k property.0 -

Surely that are insured for screw ups. Doubt they have to pay a seperate premium for every bit of business they do.0
