I find the eligibility checker a bit rubbish, I had a 90% chance of a TSB credit card it was declined. I had 0% chance of an Amex card and it was approved
Complete fiction for me too. It's telling me that I have no chance of getting any new cards as I'm massively overcommitted, which is true.
I'm stoozing and on paper am about £30k in debt when you include my 0% credit cards, along with 0% car finance and a low rate loan, which I'm about to pay off thanks to the tip in this week's newsletter. To my shame, I didn't realise that it was cheaper to settle than let it run it's course - I thought that the outstanding balance included already included all the interest payable during the whole term of the loan, which it doesn't.
However, Tesco have been bugging me to apply for a second credit card (I already have £6k at 0% on another card with them). So I just have and got accepted for £3.4k limit for 2 years on purchases. A bit of creative use with my normal spending and I've just extended my 0% borrowing a bit longer. So Tesco are currently lending me close to £10k at 0%, while paying me 3% savings interest on 3k. It's only a couple of months since I took out a 0% fee free balance transfer card with TSB too with a credit limit of over £4k0 -
I was rejected on a tesco card and had 95% chance of being successful . I have checked my credit file and it is my affordability that says weak ( retired now but still have debt ) . I have had a pre approved letter from Lloyds bank for a cc should I apply as was rejected last month with tesco and because my affordability is v weak will I ever be successful ,0

The weather said a 5% chance of rain and it actually rained!!
What are the odds?!;)0 -
Sometimes this still happens, although Halifax do have a habit of rejecting most applications for the Clarity. You can write a letter of appeal using a template on another MSE thread, I used this and was later accepted. I'll post the link below! But it's mainly down to your income, credit report etc, so the appeals process is mainly sharing with them what they might not have picked up from your report.

Odd that as i just opened a bank account with them (£125 to switch) and thought id chance my arm for a credit card at same time.
Credit file far from good and have made far to many searches and opened maybe 4 new credit cards with 3 new bank accounts all in last 6 months and was accepted for both.0 -
I applied for a Halifax card recently, I've had a few searches in the last 6 months, searches are not always important it depends on the lender. Application accepted immediately online.0
