Barclay card fraud & not chip and pin !!

  • Therefore the accusation that the bank were involved is entirely unjust

Id suggest you leave it at that and stop playing amatuer detective and giving currys more information to challenge any chargebacks etc or say you admit ownership

Quite a sweeping statement to make regarding the Bank not being involved, after all, you, nor I, or anyone else come to that are in full possession of the actual facts.

As far as your advice to the OP to stop playing amatuer detective goes, you make it quite clear that the blame should be laid at the door of anyone other than the Bank's, your attitude is the Bank's can do no wrong.

Well I for one totally disagree with you in as much as I spent half my very long Police Service as a Detective, and one of the first rules in criminal investigation is 'Keep an open mind'.

If someone in the bank was involved, why would they use the wrong name? why wouldnt they use a far more profitable type of fraud, one less traceable?

Secondly I know fine that christianaid has been bumping on accounts for every financial institution and is a test amount on compromised card numbers!

I havent said the bank can do no wrong but they have taken this on and are dealing with it, all the time he is sitting getting involved when he shouldnt and these companies could well be getting more info from him which in turn could help them challenge any chargebacks

This is not an internal fraud, it isnt identity theft, it is a misuse of his card details and that lies in the banks field to sort, not him, not the police

He should leave it to the people who are dealing with it instead of playing amatuer detective and making potentially libelous statements with absolutly no reason to do so.

    Ok
Barclaycard said they use stuff thats easy to get rid of quickly hense laptop and bayby items, as well as foreign cheques.

Theres no need for a chargeback from curry`s because they item wouldn`t have been charged till shipped.

Big factor over a bin hit is the fact our last name was used so that obviously discredits that, because a bin hit would just generate a card number not a persons name and address.

Also what you have to think of aswell is, how many people in this country have the same name. Now surely currys wouldn`t ring everyone till they got the right person ?.
  • To you both.
First Chris. You have every right to be suspicious and angry, however, please choose you words more carefully. I have been done by c.card fraudsters on the net and the bank just sorted it (natwest). Unless any thing else arrives dont worry.

    Smartestmanalive.
Take a chill pill. We can see your point, but the guy was upset.

    Also consider
I didn`t need to post any of this, but in doing so i might actually make people aware to our situation.

Now if some reply and say they have had virtually the same sort of thing happen in the last week or so, would you still recon it`s a problem with the individual or a misuse of the card ? hmmmmmmm.
  • You would be exasperated at the amount of credit card fraud that goes on in the Uk alone. People dont bother making other people aware of the problem because they might feel stupid. But believe me you are not alone, everybody knows about it but just ignore it cos there is not a lot that you can do.

I have changed my original post now Kitchen buff

My OH worked for Barclays for 10 years (allthough now just been made redundent) and is fully aware of what can be done if so wished.

Also anyone who watched the program about the company on TV earlier this year should fully understand the point im trying to make.

My original post said that in the situation that all this has happened it is maybe possible meaning i`m not 100% sure no i have no proof but the program involved did have !.

With all the details that have been obtained and the fact the cards havn`t been cloned, and we havn`t registered our details on the same websites it seems mighty suspicious and thats what i was just trying to point out.

And kitchen buff i`m aware of the amount of fraud that goes on each day and also to the fact it`s not your standard run of the mill chip and pin clone either.

I thought to say they have or to state it`s possible are two entirely different things thats all.

The reason the fraudster gave the correct telephone number comes down to what is called data matching. Whoever runs Curry's finance side will use fraud detection software, this will involve checking if the number is indeed linked to the individual concerned or even if it is for the correct town, if not it will ring alarm bells, this can be done by a number of methods such as Experian Detect and National Hunter Databases (both Equifax and Callcredit have similar systems, and the organisationd does internal matching with the companies in its own group, in this case DSG) that hold details of previous credit application and the details given on them such as employer, phone numbers, date of birth, salary etc, and also matching it with a national database of names and phone numbers provided by the major market players. If a match fails i.e. in the application it states the area code is in a different town or they have been employed for 10 years with company x but in every other application they have been employed since 2003 with company y, then this will raise an investigation. "Iamthesmartestmanalive" it is a rather grand title and from what you have written you clearly have no idea of how an organisation goes about trying to verify using electronic means if the data it has received is genuine or likely to be fraud. I suggest you get a job in the industry, work their for 10 years, and then you can make comment, which hopefully will be based on the sound knowledge that underpin the system and not fatuous remarks to someone who is obviously concerned about what has and could occur in future as another person is intent on using their personal details to rip people off. the first crdit card i had was a capital one with a 200 pound limit and i knew my limit. I only ever used it twice, once to pay for a hire car at a well known hire company around here and the other was to pay my phone bill on an automated service with orange. One day i decided to ring up to see what i had left to spend and was directed tyo the fraud detection team where they told me that someone had tried to use it twice to buy mail order stuff to the tune of 2 thousand pounds

you really arent the smartest man alive. serioulsy add up the number of people agreeing with you, and the number of people telling you to pipe down. Quite simple maths actually (use your fingers to count if it helps), and it may suprise you to know the result .
