This is an “over the garden fence” type thread where we chat about everything Old Style and maybe a little bit more. It’s a great, inspiring and motivating thread we start each day to discuss what Old Style things we’re going to do today or what we’ve achieved already. Everyone’s welcome, please do come in, put your feet up (although check the fence hasn’t just been painted first!) and join us for an Old Style natter. The more the merrier!

As this is the Old Style Board, it would be appreciated if posts could include some Old Style content. Please be aware that many people may have small screens, or SLOW internet connections, so please don’t post large pictures, or clip art – links are preferred. When you make a post, if you feel like giving it a title, that will help others that don’t have the time to read everything skim through the thread quickly but if not it's not a problem. Please do not start a new daily thread before you go to bed at night because this often leaves things confusing with two daily threads live at the same time. The idea is that a member would start each new daily thread after they get up in the morning.

Morning everyone

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Good Morning chums ,founder member of the 'wide awake club' here this morning :) woke up at 3.50 and just cannot get back to sleep . No doubt a 'nannynap' will be on the cards later.

So I decide to do something useful and did my online banking first thing :) I will shortly make another cuppa and maybe have a read of my book.

DGS Ben will be off to Montreal on Wednesday via Stansted and I said I would drive him up there to save him some cash .It seems to get a £300.00 flight he will be flying to Dublin landing at 11.00 at night then heads down in the airport until his flight next morning which will go via Heathrow (40 minute lay-over) then on to Canada :) but he worked it out that doing it this way he saved around £350 . Smart boy our Ben. He is young, and a student, and he says that a night sleeping on a bench at the airport isn't so bad :)He will sleep on the flight out there .

He has certainly got the travel bug, as when he comes home to the UK he will have two weeks with us on the IoW :)with the rest of the family, then back to London with his g/f for a day, then the two of them are off to Tokyo for a week. He has been doing three jobs since May in Norwich to help pay for his trips, and living on quite a lot of baked beans :):):) and fresh air, and I am so pleased that he is spreading his wings and seeing the world whilst he can.

While he is in Canada him and his g/f are getting the overnight bus down to New York to see his cousin Danny (my eldest DGS) who lives in Manhattan. Definitely got itchy feet that boy:D

Just watch a magnificent sunrise, the sky is gorgeous a sort of turquoise and pale pink, looks like it may be a nice day .
right time for another cuppa ,hope you all have a good day what ever you are doing

take care chums

JackieO xx

P.S. Welcome enchilada, hope you enjoy our friendly bunch of daily natters :):):)

    Morning all

Thanks for the thread JackieO, hugs to anyone in need.

4:15 seems to be my current wakeup time so I have plenty of time to get ready for work.

We have new neighbours, they are not happy as they think we moved their boat, they were in the wrong place and it was the marina manager who moved them.

The electric tripped on the shore power yesterday, fortunately I realised before it ruined the batteries as that would be a very expensive job.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Morning all.

    Thanks for the thread Jackie.

Hester have you told your new neighbours it was the Marine Manager that moved their boat?

Well Monday morning here again so soon..where do the weekends go? I'm not feeling any more rested even after my CBA day yesterday but nothing new there! Roll on home time and next weekend :rotfl:

Hope you all have a good day :)

    Good morning everyone.
I've been awake since 3.15am I've finally given in and come downstairs. I had a craving for toast and strawberry jam, so I've had that , lovely.
We had DGD for the weekend, she's pretty lively and I thought I would sleep like the proverbial log last night, but it seems not.
Not a lot happening today, just tidying, and washing. I wish I'd done some washing yesterday when it was windy. I'll also go to my Book Group, and hope we get a better book to read this month than the one I'm returning - chick lit that was so bad it was funny.
Hope everyone has as good a day as they can.

    Good morning everyone.

    Yes, more rain here!

My morning will be spent driving up to Oban, at no more than 50 miles an hour, to get a new tyre fitted. 'Unfortunately' the garage is right opposite a large T*sco and very close to a huge new L*dl so I may have a wander found them.

Since the change of plan yesterday those new plans have already changed. I realised that DM's new Infinity service, which starts on Wednesday, wouldn't work with her current router, so I'm going down on Wednesday now. Just as well I'm retired!

When I was rearranging the small barn I found some pouch meals which are past their UB date, so I'll be using them up. Only three of them, perfect for this week.

Nothing else to report, I do my main online banking jobs on the second working day of the month so nothing today.

    Happy Monday folks.

    Morning everyone

JackieO - thanks for starting us off x

Hugs to those that want/need one x

Happy birthday to those with a birthday x

Now light, bright sunshine and clear sky, load in the WM hopefully be finished before I leave for work, will peg it out then.

DH up and gone to work stupid stupid early, DS1 now getting ready for work and DS2 still in his pit, he's finished college for the summer break, so he'll be making more use of his gym membership no doubt.

Lunch yesterday was roast chicken, stuffing, roasties, new HG potatoes, cauli/broc cheese, carrots, HG broad beans, peas, yorkshires and gravy, very nice, few bits leftover that are now safely in the fridge, they'll be used up in the week. Tonight dinner will be fish, chips/jacket potato, beans/veg, easy meal after a long and busy day at work, it's the start of the month too, so I'm fairly sure it'll be busy.

Yesterday, the menfolk spent quite a while in the garden trying to sort out the shed, it's a pit and become a bit of dumping ground, there's loads of stuff that needs to be got rid off, and because they kept shoving more stuff in, one side had bowed out, so luckily we'd got a old wood door that we were going to take down the dump, but DH has used it to strengthen the inside wall of the shed that had bowed out, he managed to put the bowed bit back into shape too, now he's also managed to put up a shelf in there too, it's still not finished but DS1 went to the recycling centre with a load, so it's made some space but still more to do. We also spent some time in the garden putting in new plants.

DH and I then shared a bottle of wine and sat in the sun in the garden for a while yesterday afternoon/early evening, the sun really had some power behind it, it was hot but lovely.

    Keep safe and well x

Morning folks and thanks JACKIE for kicking off. I was back to my usual early rising this morning and glad about it too. The late sleep-in that came out of the blue yesterday did me no favours and I felt half-doped all day long. I CBA doing anything, fell asleep on the sofa about 8.00, woke up at 10.00 and went straight to bed and fell asleep in minutes. Why I suddenly needed all that sleep I don't know!

Our next door neighbour's son told us yesterday that his dad, now 87, has been told he will not be fit to return home again and his son should start looking for suitable permanent care. For the last couple of years he has spent more time in hospital or temporary care than at home. As fast as he came home, even with carers coming 4 times a day, he would have an accident or fall and be back in again. It's a sad way to end up. So his house will go up for sale eventually to pay the ridiculous nursing home fees and we will have new neighbours. We have lived next to him for 37 years so it will seem strange.

Eldest DGD arrived safely in Spain yesterday afternoon after the LONG LONG journey by coach. Imagine being on a coach all that way with 26 schoolkids!!!

We are off over to the caravan after breakfast for a brief stay. We will be back Wednesday afternoon for my first Wed of the month carvery and wine meet up with the "girls". We won't need to take much just for 2 nights so an easy car-pack this time. I don't know why we always end up taking everything but the kitchen sink with us!

Have a good day folks and (HUGS) for the poorlies, sad or worried who want them. JUDI thinking of you with your DS. As fast as you have hopes the situation with him is improving, your hopes are dashed again. Take care all xxx

    Morning all,

Back to normal for me today. Hubby went off to work moaning he should have had this week off instead of last week because the weather is going to be better. It's so hard to be positive when the person you live with is so negative all the time.

I've asked Prodigal not to come till later. As much as I love him, I'd prefer not to be alone with him....not saying anything would happen but nowt wrong with being prepared. Of course that probably means he won't have his first meal of the day till tea time...bit rubbish really.

Daughter is less than 2 weeks off her delivery date and has gone off the names she chose for our Granddaughter. Thinking caps on...

Lots to do in the house today. I'll see what I can fit in.

    Onwards and forwards

    Have a great day all

Good morning all and thank you for the thread JackieO.

I had a lie in until 4.30. It is a beautiful day so far, sunshine, some clouds and a breeze.

I'm not working this week, have to use up my annual leave before September so this week and then a fortnight in August.

No particular plans today, I'm just going to enjoy not having to go out.

Hope everyone has a good day

    Morning all

Looks to be another scorcher here today, we have been very lucky with the weather so far.

Had an eventful weekend, we picked dd's car up Saturday got it home and them got a phone call about her old one and promptly sold that, great we thought that frees up room on the drive way. Sunday morning early there was a hammering on the door and it was the woman who had bought the car, she said ' I have given you £100 too much we agreed on £275 and I gave you £375 I have been up all night worrying' We told her that we had in fact agreed on £375 and she had paid the correct amount and that she got a good deal anyway as the car was up for £600 originally !!
She went off to speak to her brother who was also here and to ask his side, we have heard nothing since so Im hoping she realises her mistake !

Then last night we were all in bed and I was asleep when the dog started barking like mad I got up to see what was going on to hear next door screaming the place down at their daughter, this happens quite often so I hammered on the wall with my hand, they quickly shut up but carried on the discussion quietly till the early hours, so none of us has had much sleep, I hope they don't come round complaining about me banging, as I am in no mood to deal with that today

Off to work for me today and its my long week so not looking forward to it.

    Have good days all xx
