BBQ fire risk

I have an Outback Gas BBQ which is 3 years old and been used for around 2 years.
Its stored away in the garden shed after use and in good condition.
The other day I was cooking food and I smelt burning (other than the food).
I found that the outer metal casing was on fire with flames shooting up the side,
I quickly turned the gas off and took a video and pictures with my phone. I've searched online and it appears to be some kind of a fat fire.
My concern is that the metal tray which holds the BBQ lava rocks had caught fire and my concern was that it could spread to the gas pipe or set fire to my decking rails behind.
I've emailed (with the video and photo) and they just sent an email back saying that the BBQ should be 'leak tested' before every use (totally ignore the fact that it was not a leak).
I titled my email to them as 'Repair or recall?' so that could be why they have ignored that fact.
My question is: Do you think I have any right to a new BBQ as I think it should have lasted longer than 3 years and not become dangerous to use ?

Answered your question, nothing further needed, apart from this.0

You cook fatty foods, the fat drips onto hot metal and ignites.
I agree with the BBQ maker - it's a non issue.
Consider cooking leaner meats, and moving it away from wooden decking rails if it was close enough to be a fire risk.
The lava rock tray will be made with the potential heat in mind.0 -

Well then it was the food wasn't it!0 -
Fat fires are part of barbecuing - whether on charcoal or gas - you deal with them ( use a water spray).0

Some reviewers of the £99 barbecue have said it's the paint on the casing that caught fire.0

Hi hollydays, it appeared to be the paint on the casing that has caught fire as that was the
part that was burning. I've cleaned it up and around a third of the paint is missing from that corner (burnt off) so perhaps you are right. Can I get more info as to where you saw the thread suggesting it was the paint ?0 -
