I did, what's your point?0 -
Post 2 answered your question, While I do understand how annoying thing like this can be perhaps it is a warning that using it right away or in the future checking boxed up items when delivered {as he box/boxes can be resealed} would be the best way to go.0

OP, from memory you are an ebay seller, possibly a business seller even? What would you think if a buyer came back at you two months after delivery complaining of serious damage to something you sold them? What's your own time limit as a seller for complaints about damage after delivery? Two months? Three...more?0

Sorry but that is utterly wrong. Try reading the Consumer Rights Act 2015.
I bow to your better knowledge but surely it is just common sense to at least check items delivered even if you cannot use them right away. hat way if there is problem {missing or damage} the sooner it is reported the more chance of getting a happy outcome.0 -
I agree that checking soonest is best. But your statement saying there is no comeback is simply wrong.0

Do you have any evidence to suggest that it arrived that way? For example:
-Is it still inside the original packaging with, say, just a corner peeled back?
-Is it still in the location the delivery guy dropped it in? If it's sitting outside in your garden, are there plants trying to grow through it right now or if it's inside is it now covered in dust?
-If you've moved it in order to open it, is there an indentation in the carpet where the package was resting?
-Is there are damage to the outer or inner packaging to suggest how the damage happened? Like dents or tears in cardboard for example?
-Alternatively, is there evidence to support the idea that you haven't attempted to assemble it - are the bolts, nuts whatever bits and pieces still in their original packaging, are the holes for fixings still unmarked?
Whatever there is, photograph it! Any evidence you have beyond just "I promise I haven't opened it until now" will be of help to you in trying to get this sorted out. Also, don't get tied up in trying to identify HOW it happened, other than "before I opened the box".
First point I think would be to contact Homebase and try just asking them to replace the damaged bits, telling them that it has not been moved/used/assembled/whatever in the meantime. See what they say. You still have time to do a chargeback if you can't reach an agreement with Homebase, but you will need some evidence to show that it came damaged if they decide to fight it.Well informed on the subjects of sofas and wood furniture, and well opinionated on everything else :rotfl:0 -
I appreciate all the attempts to help by everyone, even those that were obviously just a bit bored on the evening I posted the thread. Home-base were absolutely sound and sent replacement part immediately.
I think the key here was that the fault (a bent angle of metal) could possibly not be detected until you come to erect it. (unless you were to check everything with some mathematical protractors and set squares).
I think if you bought a stereo and didn't notice the front was scratched to pieces for 2 months, that might be seen in a slightly different light.
There is also no reason why someone would want a spare piece of metal like this as it's only function could be to facilitate a repair to this item.
(while I'm sure this has no place in law, it does alleviate any thought or doubt in customer services mind as to why you are asking for the spare part)
Had they not been so ready to help, maybe it would have been interesting to look into those consumer rights acts 2015.Warning: any unnecessary disclaimers appearing under my posts do not bear any connection with reality, either intended, accidental or otherwise.
