Tastecard Membership - Renewal

Couldn't agree more. Tastecard may be a product end of the day, but it does rely on a hospitality and servicing industry to get customer spend.
In my opinion, forgetting to cancel first time must be treated as a genuine mistake and the consumer should be given the benefit of the doubt based based on evidences (for e.g no misuse during trials resulting in financial loss for the company)
If a consumer repeats the mistake - it is their own fault (and they end up paying the price).
Good companies that values customer retentions will grow into that maturity cycle quickly.
With that, they will start writing and shaping up their company's customer relationship management/servicing policies.
Needless to say, bad companies, will still be interested in pointing fingers and use blame culture on consumer showing T&C's they signed upto (as you can see from numerous posts here).
Peace. If the OP had been told, "I'm really surprised you want to cancel, I've been working here for ten years and you're the first to ask. Of course, I'll refund the money ; but can you tell me what it is you didn't like about our service" ; we wouldn't be having the discussion.
For "Jake" to have a prepared answer, tells me it is commonplace ; that many people ( having tried the service ) don't want it, and many forget to cancel.
Perhaps we should all set a reminder to cancel a trial period such as this, that we can revoke if necessary ; but that rather starts us off with a negative idea about the product.0 -
Taste card shafted me as well. This seems to be their business model.0

I've done the Tastecard trial for £1 so many times I've lost count.
(normally even it's on a MSE offer that doesn't exclude previous signups)
I sign up and ring immediately to cancel the auto renewal / membership. It means I can use the card to the end of the trial period and I won't get charged at the end of it.
Never a problem, staff on the phone always friendly and I get confirmation of cancellation via email.
I can't see how it's Tastecards fault if you failed to cancel the trial in good time.0 -

They could just as easily say, "Have a free trial, and if you like it, sign up for some more". The default being to continue, is, for me, the "dodgy" part.0 -
