Long term, I'm desperate to speak to Barclaycard but when I phoned them last night their systems were down and I was told to call back this morning; however husband is now at work until 11 tonight so we'll have to do it then. So many obstacles!!

We've both signed up for the credit club here (on the advice of MSE) and got a quick report for us both that way which is definitely helping to see what's ok and what isn't. We will get a more comprehensive one as well. As I thought, it's the default on the card that's done it for him.

I know a few years ago I cancelled two of my cards with BC and rang them a few days later and said can I change my mind. They agreed straight away and re opened the accounts straight away. If you still want to keep the account may be worthing trying. However it probably depends on who you speak to and whether that person knows how to do it.

As you already have cards in your name, why don't you just add your husband as an additional card holder? Then he'll get a card in his own name, to use for the car hire.
