Just popped back with an update and i am pleased to inform my old sofas have now gone to a very happy new home.
I had about 20 emails asking about them and the lady i picked was very nice and so grateful of getting them.
I am feeling pleased with myself now for helping her out much better than taking them to to local tip.
I am going to have a clear out of old toys and kids clothes now to see if i can find them a new home.
    Thanks for the tips

I'm glad it all went smoothly. Thanks very much for posting back - I confess I was a little bit worried after I was so enthusiastic about it!

And did they get one?

I must admit, though, my first reaction was to check that you don't live anywhere near my dad - he's wanted a ride-on lawn mower for years and I wondered if he'd gone one step too far in his desire for one!

What's wrong with asking for a ride on mower - you or I may think it's an unreasonable request but I guess we don't have one we want to give away...

When I ran a FC group my view was it's almost impossible to judge it something is an unreasonable request as someone else might fulfil it and therefore it's reasonable.

Big problem I see is not the number of wanteds but generally the lack of offers

I suppose you're right - it just seemed a bit over-ambitious to me! I can't imagine a ride-on lawn mower being in danger of being dumped in landfill but, as I've never had one, I'm not really in a position to comment!

Sadly, the lack of offers is noticeable where I am, too. I wonder if this is a recent thing, with people deciding to hold on to old stuff more than they did when the economy was better, or if it's a more general problem? (I've only been a Freecycle member for 6 months or so, so I can't see if things are changing or not.)

you can't change the message i'm afraid - you just need to send another email to your group with 'Taken: Item' in the subject line.
